It's a busy weekend for the arts in Downtown Muncie, starting with ArtsWalk tonight, and concluding with Muncie Music Fest on Saturday night.
ARTSWALK Thursday, Oct. 2 - Downtown Muncie, in partnership with Ball State University, presents "ArtsWalk" from 5-9pm. Featuring gallery openings, performances and demonstrations, free hors d'oeuvres, music in the streets and more. Free for all ages, and the free downtown trolley will be running.Updated events that didn't make it into the ArtsWalk press release:
111 Arts Gallery and Tattoo Studios, 111 E. Main St., will participate in its first ArtsWalk today. Brad Brunsman will be the featured artist at the gallery. An opening reception with refreshments, a DJ and a performer is set for 5 p.m.
Toys Forever Models and Hobbies, 311 S. Walnut St.: Barbecue available from TJ of Poppy and Sons, live music by Phil Dunn, toys, mini car show, R/C car and aircraft demonstrations, scale model car display, monthly meeting of the local plastic modeling club.
Additionally, Cornerstone Center for the Arts will exhibit the artwork of Sarah LaBarge, who will be at the booth on Walnut with some pieces on display and will be doing portraits for part of the evening.

MUNCIE FILM SHOWCASE Friday, Oct. 3 - Harvest Moon Film Festival and Ball State Cardinal Filmworks will present a Muncie Film Showcase AT 8PM in downtown Muncie, at the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop parking lot at 206 S. Walnut Street. The Muncie Film Showcase will feature six short films from Muncie and Ball State University filmmakers. Free for all ages. There will be a cash bar available.

ARTS KALEIDOSCOPE Saturday afternoon, Oct. 4 - The legendary Humpback Barn Festival of Poetry & Art returns with a new home and a new name, at Gallery 308. More than 70 poets and artists from all over Indiana will be on hand for this event where the poets' work has inspired the artists' work. A public reception will open the event during ArtsWalk on October 2; and Arts Kaleidoscope Festival Day is Oct. 4, 10 to noon and 2 to 5 p.m. Free for all ages, cash luncheon will be served.

MUNCIE MUSIC FEST Saturday night, Oct. 4 - The Second Annual Muncie Music Fest will be held in the streets of Downtown Muncie from 6 p.m.-1 a.m. This gated, all-ages event features a wide variety of music from more than 40 bands on three outdoor stages and 7 indoor venues. Food, music and merch vendors, listening stations and more. ADMISSION: $7 advance, $10 at the gate, $5 with student ID. Free Muncie Music Fest sampler CD to first 1000 tickets. Free trolley will run to and from downtown and BSU campus.

OCTOBER EVENTS
October 1-4 - The fourth annual "Create for the Cure" will take place at The Artist Within. Local artists have painted a "Plate for the Cure," and the plates they painted will be in a silent auction during the week. The winning bids will be notified Sun. October 5th, and the monies will be donated to the Komen Foundation.
October 2 - October's First Thursday is a special all-inclusive arts event we call "ArtsWalk." It is our biggest gallery walk of the year, held in conjunction with Ball State University. Featuring special events all over downtown, free shuttles to and from BSU, demonstrations, food, music in the streets and more.
October 2 - Arts Kaleidoscope art and poetry festival opening reception at Gallery 308, 5 to 9pm.
October 2 - The Artist Within will host an upscale clothing sale for the Rose H. Meyer Scholarship Fund to be held in their upstairs gallery during ArtsWalk; the Create for the Cure silent auction BSU Cermics Guild throwing demonstrations and "Beyond I Can" wheel chair art demonstrations in the Old National parking lot.

Through October 19 - Open Space: Art About the Land at Minnetrista, an art competition and exhibition which recognizes and encourages artists in East Central Indiana who derive creative inspiration from the land, or whose work celebrates the notion of open space as it relates to the land. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to help the Red-tail Conservancy.
Through October - Sarah LaBarge, a current Ball State University student, will have her art work on display in the Cornerstone Gallery from September 22nd to October 31st. The show is titled Sarah LaBarge: Figures and New Work and features 18 pieces of her recent work.
Through October - Artworks Gallery will exhibit beadmaker Lisa Atchison's "Turning Over a New Leaf," with an opening reception during ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 2. Music will be provided by harpist Megan Upchurch.
Through October - The Artist Within will feature artwork by two local artists through October. Thurman Grantham will showcase new sculptural pieces in "Thurman's World of Flowers." Yorktown native Brent Engelmann will display his digital photo collages. "Trippin' through the 70's" includes photos of rock legends. An opening reception will be held during ArtsWalk, Oct. 2, from 5 to 9pm.
Through October - Minnetrista Farmers Market meets every Wednesday evening from 4pm until sold out, and every Saturday morning from 8am to noon. Featuring vegetables, fruits, flowers, eggs, honey, baked goods, meat, cheese and much more.
Through October - Gallery 308 presents Arts Kaleidoscope: Art & Poetry; Remembering Midred Trivers and the Humpback Barn.

Through January 4 - Snakes, Rattles and Holes at Minnetrista, a walk-through replica of a snake's skeleton that utilizes videos, artifacts, text panels and interactive elements to teach visitors about snakes of the Midwestern United States.
Through January 9 - Earthworks at Minnetrista. Native American cultures in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia constructed geometric and animal-shaped earth works that often rivaled Stonehenge in their astronomical accuracy. See virtual reconstructions of these works from 39 sites.
Every Monday - Jazz at the Fickle Peach features Charlie Owen on drums, Paul Rhine on double-bass and flute, and Phil Cooley on Piano. They perform every Monday night from 9 to 11.
