UPDATED: Enjoy the Sights and Sounds of ArtsWalk Tonight in Downtown Muncie

October's First Thursday is a special all-inclusive arts event we call "ArtsWalk." It is our biggest gallery walk of the year, held in conjunction with Ball State University. Happening Oct. 2, from 5-9pm, featuring special events all over downtown, free shuttles to and from BSU, performances and demonstrations, free food, music in the streets and more. Many locations will offer light refreshments for free, and the concession stand at Civic Theatre will be open. The free trolley will run Main - Walnut - Charles Streets from 5 to 9 PM.

Scheduled activities for this year's ArtsWalk include:

City Hall - Tour at 6 PM of The Muncie City Hall Art Collection, with Ned Griner. Collection of nineteen artists placed in our city hall at the building's completion. Rare opportunity to view works by Beulah & Francis Brown, George Mock, Hill Sharp & others. Meet at first floor desk.

111 Arts Gallery and Tattoo Studios, 111 E. Main St., will participate in its first ArtsWalk today. Brad Brunsman will be the featured artist at the gallery. An opening reception with refreshments, a DJ and a performer is set for 5 p.m.

Artist Within - Party room; Designer Clothing Resale Boutique for the Rose H. Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund. Main Gallery: Thurman Grantham, fiberglass sculptures. Reception 5 - 9. Outside: Beyond I Can Wheelchair Art and Make-your-own greeting card.

Artworks Gallery - Lisa Atchison, featured artist, Electroformed Lampwork Bead Artist, "Turning Over a New Leaf." Megan Upchurch, harpist, will provide live music. Member Anny Delk will give knitting and felting demonstrations

Casella’s Kitchen - Art by Bill Inman, La Chamba Handmade Cookware and appetizers prepared by Ivy Tech Culinary School using products from Cassella’s Gourmet Food line.

Gallery 308 - "Arts Kaleidoscope: Art, Poems & Videos." In tribute to the Humpback Barn Festival of years past, this exhibit features artworks by 38 artists which were responded to by Indiana poets. Videotape of Humpback Barn founder, Mildred Trivars, reading her poems. Free souvenir color catalog of exhibit.

Gordy Fine Art and Framing - Reception for artist David Slonim of Anderson. Exhibit of Slonim’s newest oil paintings. BSU instructors Kim Anderson & Mary Ann Rahe will be throwing on potters wheel on the sidewalk

Cornerstone Gallery - Artwork of Sarah LaBarge will be shown in the gallery. Open until 9 PM. Cornerstone will also have two booths on Walnut Street: Portraits by Sarah LaBarge, with proceeds going to Children International, and Children's activity table & info on Cornerstone offerings

Muncie Civic Theatre - BSU Museum of Art ongoing demonstration of DIDO (Digital Images Delivered Online) project will be offered in the lobby. BSU Dance Troupe will perform on stage, 7:30 to 8 PM. Muncie Ballet Studio will have information about classes & schedules in lobby. Concession stand will be open with popcorn, candy & soft drinks.

Toys Forever Models and Hobbies, 311 S. Walnut St.: Barbecue available from TJ of Poppy and Sons, live music by Phil Dunn, toys, mini car show, R/C car and aircraft demonstrations, scale model car display, monthly meeting of the local plastic modeling club.

Vera Mae's Bistro will have Culinary (garnishing) demonstrations by Ivy Tech students in front of restaurant, 5 to 8 PM.

Friday Night, October 3, will feature a Muncie Film Series - Starts at dusk in parking lot next to Blue Bottle. 6 short films from Muncie and BSU filmmakers. Free event - all ages - Cash bar/area available. Presented by Harvest Moon Film Festival and Ball State Cardinal Filmworks. Information table for networking opportunities, details on acting, etc.
