14 Area Artists at Gordy Fine Art & Framing Holiday Exhibit

Pressed for Prints: Traditional & Giclee
Holiday Exhibit at Gordy Fine Art & Framing Company Features 14 Area Artists

Traditional printmakers will exhibit alongside artists who typically work in oils, watercolors, photography and collage in a two-month show that aims to be both visually exciting and educational. The five printmakers, David & Sarojini Johnson from the Ball State Art Department, two of their graduate students, Jake Saunders and Josh Winkler, and BSU graduate and gallery owner, Genny Gordy, will exhibit limited edition relief prints, lithographs and serigraphs ranging in subject from decorative and farm animals to saints, toys and helicopters. They will be joined by eight traditional artists who will hang giclee prints of some of their most popular pieces.

The world of fine art prints recently expanded with technological advances that created giclee prints. Pronouced, jee-clay, the term is French for "spray of ink." A digital image is taken from a work of art by either high-quality scanning or camera, and copies are made with the color saturation and tone appearance of the original. When printed with today's high quality inks onto rag papers or canvas, giclees are considered extremely accurate archival reproductions. In some cases, the giclee may outlast the original and be more affordable.

Framed works by Alan Patrick, Paul Laseau, Martha Gilliom, Julie Eflin, Shonet Lambert Martin, Margie Prim, Sherry Powell, Jay Zimmerman, and Brian Gordy will give patrons the opportunity to examine the new prints and perhaps take some home for the holidays. A First Thursday artists' reception will be held from 5 to 8 PM on December 7, 2006 at the downtown frame shop/gallery. Additionally, Brian and Genny Gordy will give a talk at 5:30 PM, Printmaking Methods & How to Start a Print Collection. At 6 PM, Greg Harty will give a talk on Giclee Printing at Jack's Camera Shop. Back at Gordy's, Ben Gordy will demonstrate the art of water gilding beginning at 6:30 PM. The public is invited to each presentation and to the artists' reception. Light refreshments will be served.

Pressed for Prints will run through January 29, 2007, and may be viewed during business hours, Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturday, 9 to 3. Gordy Fine Art & Framing is located at 224 East Main Street, across the street from Jack's Camera Shop. For more information, call 284-8422 or visit www.gordyframing.com.

Santa visits Cornerstone Center for the Arts

SANTA VISITS CORNERSTONE!!

Hundreds come out to see Santa.

November 18, 2006
Brett A. Ellison, Director of Rentals & Events

Saturday was the day for children of all ages to step into a winter
wonderland at Cornerstone's Candy Cane Lane. There may not have been any
snow on the ground outside but Cornerstone's Great Room located on the
second floor was transformed into Candy Cane Lane presented by The Alpha
Chapter of Psi Iota Xi here in Muncie.

JPG>

Children were lined up to get their Free Picture with Santa in this magical
land. Decorating could not have been done without the many volunteers who
spent their week here at Cornerstone in Preparation for today's events.
Special thank you's go to the Alpha Chapter of Psi Iota Xi for sponsoring
the event, Marilyn Cleary and Ricky Moracle, Advanced Smile Dentistry,
Indiana Public Radio, Indiana Arts Commission, Mattel and A Bright Smile Toy
Drive.

Once children had their picture take with Santa

They were able to visit his toy store courtesy of Mattel and A Bright Smile
Toy Drive and Advanced Smile Dentistry,

Then they were able to make and take a picture frame,

;

And then they could go to the Theatre Room to listen to music by Piano
Teacher, Judy Kiger and some of her students while waiting to get a balloon
from Blossom the Clown or get a tattoo.

It turned out to be a wonderful day for children of all ages to come and
visit Cornerstone Center for the Arts and kick off the Holidays.

MPG's Living Art Program

MPG's Living Arts Program
Features "The Arts of Poetry" November 9

"The Art of Poetry" is the focus of November's Living Arts Series at MPG, Thursday, November 9 at 7:00 p.m. The program takes place at the gallery, located at 308 E. Main Street. Several poets from the Tipton Poetry Journal will read from their work, discuss their creative processes, and autograph copies of the just-released 2006 Tipton Poetry Journal which will be available for purchase. Several poets are traveling to participate in this months Living Arts Program.

From 2002 to 2005, poets from central and east central Indiana attended the Tipton Poetry Reading, a monthly gathering featuring prominent Indiana poets which always included an open mike format. The Tipton Poetry Journal evolved from the energy of these poets. Since the fall of 2005, the Journal no longer limits itself to Indiana poets, seeking quality work from all areas.

The November Living Arts program will offer light refreshments to those in attendance. Admission is free. For more information, contact MPG at 765-289-8575.

Downtown Holiday Lights Update

Here is an update from our Downtown Holiday Lights Celebration committee. I have tried to take what we discussed from last Wednesday's meeting and put it into action along with a list of needs and desires. Remember this is a work in progress and is intended to be updated as things are confirmed, added or changed.

If you have information, organizations or activities that can be added to the list, or if you would like to take on an additional responsibility, just cut and paste this list into a new document, make your additions or changes and e-mail to the entire group. Hopefully this will make this outline an evolving document that we all can all work with. Just be sure to use the last outline sent to you, so we don't lose or overlook any changes.

There will be some expense to this event. Do we have any money to work with? Does someone want to approach an underwriter? I think we could do everything included in this outline with about $1000.

The Star Press has committed to some advertising support in addition to the Holiday tab Mark DiFabio is working on. The tab deadline is Wednesday.
I think we can anticipate some assistance from All Access and the reporting staff as well. Carrie will go to work with her marketing magic through the website along with everyone using their own mailing and e-mail resources. Traci has volunteered to do our design work. I have sent our basic info (invitation to participate) to WLBC, Visitors Bureau, Star Press, Daily News, All Access and MuncieDowntown. Hopefully by next week we will be able to send a PR of actual activities to all sources.

We will ask for help where it is missing at the DBC meeting on Wednesday. What else are we missing?

I did not include Ms. Gant from United Insurance...anyone have her e-mail address? If so please forward to all so that we can put her in the loop.

Did we schedule a date for our next meeting? If we did, I can't find it in my notes.

Not a bad start for a weeks worth of work!
Thanks for everything you do!
