HARVEST MOON FILM FESTIVAL
Film Descriptions

Absolute Zero
This intriguing film tells the story of a refrigerated train and a man who is trapped inside an empty wagon. The man writes a grim log on the wall with a first-hand account of death by freezing. Only later it is discovered that the refrigeration unit wasn't operating. The temperature in the wagon never fell below 68 degrees and yet the man records the symptoms of hypothermia as he dies. 27 minutes

Bresson & Adeline
Bresson & Adeline is the story of a brother and sister who suffer a peculiar affliction: they were never born. They dress up, bang pans, jump and shout at their mother and father, but to no avail. The children find themselves slowly fading away as their identities are lost. This is a short film about life, creativity, and most of all, the choices we make. 5 minutes

The Cave: An Adaptation of Plato's Allegory in Clay
An excerpt from Plato's Republic, the 'Allegory of the Cave' is a classic commentary on the human condition. This film has adapted and brought it to life by shooting over 4,000 still photographs of John Grigsby's wonderful clay animation. 3 minutes

Mintonette: An Exploration of Title IX

The focus is on the fall season of a local national championship girls' volleyball team, the Burris Lady Owls, and how athletics plays a vital role in community and personal growth. 49 minutes

Requiem Dance
This film is the tale of two lovers' devotion to each other through dance and their interaction with intolerance. A fusion of music, ballet, and movement, Requiem Dance tells this engrossing story without words.7 minutes

The Rescue of Raven 1-1
Amidst all of the controversy with the Vietnam War and the military efforts, a pilot flying for a secret division of the armed forces in Southeast Asia was shot down and stranded. 'The Rescue of Raven 1-1' is a documentary film telling the story of the day he was shot down, the Air America pilot who rescued him, and their reunion years later. 25 minutes

A Ripple of Hope
Advised against appearing before an inner city crowd in Indianapolis the night Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, Robert Kennedy delivered an extemporaneous speech that brought a sense of peace to the city. This documentary film dramatically narrates the events of that tragic day 40 years ago through the eyes of those who were there. Featuring footage of Robert Kennedy's speech at Ball State University in Muncie and digitally restored news footage and original music by Grammy Award winner John Colby. 54 minutes

Small Avalanches
Set in the summer of 1971, this film explores a singular event in a young girl's life. It's a coming of age for thirteen year-old Nancy, who spends her afternoons at a gas station in the middle of nowhere. When a passerby from out of town stops for gas, Nancy sets her eyes upon him. What she does not know is how this person will affect her life in a way her young mind cannot imagine. 16 minutes

Telltale
This film is an adaptation of Edgar Allan Poe's The Telltale Heart featuring a woman and a neighbor's dog. This take on a classic story is a modern retelling of the chilling plot. This short film was written, produced, and directed by Ball State University students. 12 minutes

War Eagle, Arkansas
This story is a character-driven drama about a young man's choice of whether to leave his family and friends for a career in baseball or stay and redeem his struggling community. The story takes place over a few pivotal weeks in the summer after Enoch Cass's senior year, and is set against the backdrop of Arkansas' beautiful Ozark Mountains. 94 minutes

Yesterday Was A Lie
This film noir follows Hoyle, a girl with a sharp mind and a weakness for bourbon who finds herself on the trail of a reclusive genius. But her work takes a series of unforeseen twists as events around her grow increasingly fragmented. With a sexy lounge singer and a loyal partner as her only allies, Hoyle is plunged into a dark world of intrigue and earth-shattering cosmological secrets. 89 minutes
