October 21 - Candidate forum for Delaware County Commissioner and Delaware County Council, at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Northside Middle School. Hosted by Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce along with the Muncie League of Women Voters.

October 23 - 401(k)ids 10th Anniversary, at 7:00pm Cornerstone Center for the Arts will celebrate the past ten years of the 401(k)ids Arts Scholarship Program as well as past and present participants of the program. Participants will perform or display past work including dance, art, theatre, or music. This event is free and open to the public. Information: 281-9503, ext. 15.

OCTOBER ONGOING

Through October 19 - Open Space: Art About the Land at Minnetrista, an art competition and exhibition which recognizes and encourages artists in East Central Indiana who derive creative inspiration from the land, or whose work celebrates the notion of open space as it relates to the land. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to help the Red-tail Conservancy.

October 28 through Dec. 6 - Muncie Ballet 6-week workshop, "Evil Elf" on Tuesdays from 4-5pm. The final creation will be used in The Children's Nutcracker. Dance or stage experience is not required.

Through October - Sarah LaBarge, a current Ball State University student, will have her art work on display in the Cornerstone Gallery from September 22nd to October 31st. The show is titled Sarah LaBarge: Figures and New Work and features 18 pieces of her recent work.

Through October - Artworks Gallery will exhibit beadmaker Lisa Atchison's "Turning Over a New Leaf," with an opening reception during ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 2. Music will be provided by harpist Megan Upchurch.

Through October - The Artist Within will feature artwork by two local artists through October. Thurman Grantham will showcase new sculptural pieces in "Thurman's World of Flowers." Yorktown native Brent Engelmann will display his digital photo collages. "Trippin' through the 70's" includes photos of rock legends. An opening reception will be held during ArtsWalk, Oct. 2, from 5 to 9pm.

Through October - Minnetrista Farmers Market meets every Wednesday evening from 4pm until sold out, and every Saturday morning from 8am to noon. Featuring vegetables, fruits, flowers, eggs, honey, baked goods, meat, cheese and much more.

Through October - Gallery 308 presents Arts Kaleidoscope: Art & Poetry; Remembering Midred Trivers and the Humpback Barn.

November 1 through Dec. 6 - Muncie Ballet 6-week workshop, "Sugar Plum Fairy" on Saturdays from 9:30-10:30am. Participants will create a sparkle and shine dance to be used in The Children's Nutcracker. Dance or stage experience is not required.

Through December 13 - Cornerstone Arts Program classes for youth and adults in numerous areas of the arts, including visual arts, dance and music. Register online at www.cornerstonearts.org.

Through January 4 - Snakes, Rattles and Holes at Minnetrista, a walk-through replica of a snake's skeleton that utilizes videos, artifacts, text panels and interactive elements to teach visitors about snakes of the Midwestern United States.

Through January 9 - Earthworks at Minnetrista. Native American cultures in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia constructed geometric and animal-shaped earth works that often rivaled Stonehenge in their astronomical accuracy. See virtual reconstructions of these works from 39 sites.

Every Monday - Jazz at the Fickle Peach features Charlie Owen on drums, Paul Rhine on double-bass and flute, and Phil Cooley on Piano. They perform every Monday night from 9 to 11.

November 1 - Join the Muncie Civic Theatre for a Masquerade Gala on November 1st after the Jekyll and Hyde performance. The Masquerade Gala will take place at Vera Mae's at 10:00 pm after the end of the performance.

November 5 - Muncie on the Move at Horizon Convention Center. The Chamber will be collecting new toys for Toys for Tots and canned food for the Hearts & Hands United food drive. Lori Byers from Ball State Universityexplains how we have the power to improve our health based on the story and script we "write" for ourselves. Learn how to develop a pro-active plan for living a healthier life.

November 21 - 6th Annual Wine Dinner and Art Auction at Vera Mae's, to benefit A.R.F. (Animal Rescue Fund) and Gallery 308. Two-week auction artwork preview exhibit begins during First Thursday, Nov. 6.
