This weekend is BSU Family Weekend, and Downtown Muncie extends a warm welcome to our visitors! Families are given the option to "Discover Downtown" on Saturday at 4pm as part of scheduled Family Weekend activities. Click Here for details.

Downtown Farm Stand, Cassella's Kitchen and other downtown businesses come together at the Fickle Peach this Sunday for the second annual All Beers Considered, a fundraiser for Indiana Public Radio. Click Here for details.

GARFIELD WANTED: In 2003, Garfield's 25th birthday was celebrated here in Muncie, including 25 Garfield sculptures. The Muncie Visitor's Bureau is looking for any of these sculptures that are still here locally. If you have one of these Garfields, please let the Visitors Bureau know by calling 284-2700. Also, please let them know if it is where the public can view it, what "design" your Garfield has, and by what artist. The artist should have signed it along with Jim Davis.

October 25 - Snakehead Ed will showcase his scaly friends during Snakes Alive at Minnetrista from 2:30-3:30 p.m. Price is included with admission.

October 25 - Free Family Saturday at Muncie Children's Museum. Free admission from 10 am to 5 pm.

October 25 - Max Music Wars continues at Center Stage, to benefit Action for Animals, Oct. 18, 25, Nov. 1 and finals on Nov. 8th. Anyone who attend can vote for their favorite band. Doors open at 7pm. Proceeds go to Action For Animals.

October 25 - Fall Folk Jam at Doc's Music Hall, featuring Bashville Boys, Gamblin Christmas, Michael Martin Band and Fresh Hops

October 28 - Candidate forum for Indiana's 6th Congressional District and Indiana House of Representatives, at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium at Northside Middle School. Hosted by Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce along with the Muncie League of Women Voters.

October 29 - Muncie Downtown Business Council meets at 3pm in the Star Press building conference room. The public is invited to attend for updates about downtown.

October 30 - Community Halloween Party at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 4:00-6:00pm, with fun and family friendly activities for children, prizes, treats, and more. This event is free and open to the public.

October 30 - The Living Room will host an art show, featuring art from several Taylor University students. The show begins at 7pm. Free admission.

OCTOBER ONGOING

Through October - Open Space: Art About the Land at Minnetrista, an art competition and exhibition which recognizes and encourages artists in East Central Indiana who derive creative inspiration from the land, or whose work celebrates the notion of open space as it relates to the land. A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to help the Red-tail Conservancy.

Through October - Sarah LaBarge, a current Ball State University student, will have her art work on display in the Cornerstone Gallery from September 22nd to October 31st. The show is titled Sarah LaBarge: Figures and New Work and features 18 pieces of her recent work.

Through October - Artworks Gallery will exhibit beadmaker Lisa Atchison's "Turning Over a New Leaf," with an opening reception during ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 2. Music will be provided by harpist Megan Upchurch.

Through October - The Artist Within will feature artwork by two local artists through October. Thurman Grantham will showcase new sculptural pieces in "Thurman's World of Flowers." Yorktown native Brent Engelmann will display his digital photo collages. "Trippin' through the 70's" includes photos of rock legends. An opening reception will be held during ArtsWalk, Oct. 2, from 5 to 9pm.

Through October - Minnetrista Farmers Market meets every Wednesday evening from 4pm until sold out, and every Saturday morning from 8am to noon. Featuring vegetables, fruits, flowers, eggs, honey, baked goods, meat, cheese and much more.

Through October - Gallery 308 presents Arts Kaleidoscope: Art & Poetry; Remembering Midred Trivers and the Humpback Barn.

Through October - Muncie Children's Museum - Make 'n Take. Included with admission. Come to the MCM every Wednesday and Friday, at 1:00 p.m., to take part in innovative and fun crafts in the Museum's Make 'n Take! Pre-registration is not required.

Through October - Muncie Children's Museum - Storytime. Included with admission. Join the MCM educators every Tuesday and Thursday, at 1:00 p.m., for Storytime in the Book Nook! Pre-registration is not required.

October 28 through Dec. 6 - Mischievous Elf Tuesdays 4-5pm at Muncie Ballet Studio. Jumping, turning, crouching,and creating a sprightly elf is the goal....Theatre movement class directed by Arttacgo Luckett - participants will have great fun creating movements using several different styles of dance. The final creation will be used in The Children's Nutcracker. Dance or stage experience is not required.

October 27 through December 13 - Cornerstone Arts Program classes for youth and adults in numerous areas of the arts, including visual arts, dance and music. Register online at www.cornerstonearts.org.

Through January 4 - Snakes, Rattles and Holes at Minnetrista, a walk-through replica of a snake's skeleton that utilizes videos, artifacts, text panels and interactive elements to teach visitors about snakes of the Midwestern United States.

Through January 9 - Earthworks at Minnetrista. Native American cultures in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia constructed geometric and animal-shaped earth works that often rivaled Stonehenge in their astronomical accuracy. See virtual reconstructions of these works from 39 sites.

Every Monday - Jazz at the Fickle Peach features Charlie Owen on drums, Paul Rhine on double-bass and flute, and Phil Cooley on Piano. They perform every Monday night from 9 to 11.

November 5 - Muncie on the Move at Horizon Convention Center. The Chamber will be collecting new toys for Toys for Tots and canned food for the Hearts & Hands United food drive. November 8 - Show & Tell: Gingerbread Houses at Minnetrista, 1:30 - 3 p.m. ACF certified chefs Chef Heather Pier, CC and Chef Will Wolfe, CC from Ivy Tech Culinary Program will demonstrate gingerbread house construction and decoration. No registration is needed.

November 8 - Flavors of Fall at Minnetrista - Celebrate the harvest season with a three-course outdoor dinner from the American Culinary Federation prepared and served in the Orchard Courtyard from 6 to 8:30 p.m. For reservations, call (765) 213-3549.

November 13 - 15th - The second annual Harvest Moon Film Festival will take place November 13 th -15 th in downtown Muncie. A variety of independent films will be screened and community members will have the chance to view films, attend the Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony, and attend the educational workshops. www.harvestmoonfilmfestival.com.

Lori Byers from Ball State Universityexplains how we have the power to improve our health based on the story and script we "write" for ourselves. November 15 - Cyberchase(TM) Family Fun Day at Minnetrista, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Meet Harry from the PBS series, Cyberchase. Explore the exhibit. Put your math skills to the test to chase down the answers to some tricky mathematical mysteries. Price: FREE!

November 19 - PBS Program Club at Minnetrista, 4pm. Watch and discuss "Ride Along the Lincoln Highway." Price: FREE; but registration is requested.

November 21 - 6th Annual Wine Dinner and Art Auction at Vera Mae's, to benefit A.R.F. (Animal Rescue Fund) and Gallery 308. Two-week auction artwork preview exhibit begins during First Thursday, Nov. 6.

Through November - The Artist Within will host an exhibit and sale of works by the members of local organization "Creative Artists." An artists reception will be held from 5-8 pm, Thursday, November 6, 2007.

Through November - Watercolors by Jim Faulkner will be exhibited at Gordy Fine Art and Framing during the month of November. A reception will be held during the First Thursday on November 6, 2008, from 5 to 8 PM. The public is invited to attend and light refreshments will be served.

November 1 through Dec. 6 - Sugar Plum Fairy Saturdays 9:30-10:30 Nov. 1 - Dec. 6th at Muncie Ballet Studio. Tip toes, turning, twirling and creating the sweetest fairy is the goal... Theatre movement class directed by Lisa Love - participants will create a sparkle and shine fairy character dance to be used in The Children's Nutcracker. Dance or stage experience is not required.
