DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS: Summer begins tonight in Downtown Muncie! After work, stop by the 200 block of South Walnut Street, next to the Blue Bottle, for live music and fun with the return of Freaky Tiki Fridays, starting tonight, and every Friday through summer. The Free Friday Night Movies also begin tonight. This year the movies will be shown on the south wall of the Downtown Development building, and tonight's movie is "Happy Feet." All movies will begin at dusk.
Beginning Saturday, June 2, 2007 and through Labor day, the historic Wysor Street Depot will be open on weekends. Saturday hours will be 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and Sunday hours will be 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Normal week-day hours will remain Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
On June 11, MITS Trolley hours will be changing. The "short loop" will run from 7:30-8:30am and 3:45-4:45pm. The "Figure 8" will run from 8:30-9:15am; 11:30am - 1:45pm; 3:15-3:45pm; and 4:45-5:15pm. For more info, visit www.mitsbus.org.

Free Friday Night Movies Schedule
Free Friday Night Movies Downtown are back this summer, but in a new location at the Downtown Development building in the 400 block of S. Walnut St. (across from the new building construction). The season opens with Happy Feet (Rated G) at dusk on Friday, June 1st.
All movies will begin at dusk. Not-for-profit groups will be handling the concession stands -- popcorn, candy bars and other movie goodies.

June 1: Happy Feet, Rated G. In Antarctica, the Emperor Penguin must attract his mate with his own distinctive heart song. Mumble is a penguin who is born without the ability to sing -- but he sure can dance.
June 8: The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Rated PG. Based on Ann Brashares's best-selling novel, this film takes us through a very special summer for a group of four 16-year-old friends who are separated for the first time. The girls find a magical pair of jeans that fits each of them perfectly and they use this enchanted outfit as a way to keep in touch.
June 15: Step Up, Rated PG-13. Tyler is a delinquent from the wrong side of the tracks. Nora is a privileged ballerina at Baltimore's ultra-elite Maryland School of the Arts. July 20: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest, Rated PG-13. Ahoy mates! Captain Jack is back and finds himself with a blood debt to the legendary Davey Jones. Will and Elizabeth are planning a wedding but are forced to put that on hold to help Jack out of yet another predicament.

When young Roy moves from Montana to Florida with his family, he ends up befriending two kids who are fighting to protect the home of a group of endangered burrow owls from a real estate developer. Based on the popular children's book with new music from producer Jimmy Buffett.
Aug. 3: Flushed Away, Rated PG. A pampered British rat named Roddy is flushed into the London sewers when he tries to rid the house of unwanted (and unwashed!) guest Sid. Used to the good life, he must make it on his own in the sewer world of Ratropolis run by the villainous Toad who has it in for all rodents.
Aug. 10: Unaccompanied Minors, Rated PG. It's the holiday season and a huge blizzard has shut down the Chicago's O'Hare airport. Five unaccompanied minors are determined to have their own holiday fun running wild inside the terminal, joyriding on golf carts and plummeting through baggage chutes all while outwitting and outrunning an uptight airport official and his gullible assistant.
Aug. 17: RV, Rated PG. Overworked executive Bob McNeive (Robin Williams) is about to embark on the most dangerous adventure of his life -- a two-week cross-country trip in an RV with his family.

Muncie Civic Theatre Audition Announcement
Muncie Civic Theatre will hold open auditions on Saturday, June 16, 2007 at 1:00pm on the Main Stage at Muncie Civic Theatre, 216 E. Main Street in downtown Muncie.
The shows being cast from this audition include the Rock & Roll musical FOOTLOOSE, the gothic horror drama FRANKENSTEIN and THE HOT JAZZ CABARET featuring songs from the Ragtime and Early Jazz Era of Amercian popular music.
There is no experience necessary to audition for shows at Muncie Civic, but we do ask each person auditioning to prepare a short song, monologue, poem or story to recite from memory or their initial audition.
Those under consideration for specific roles may be asked to read from a script or learn a piece of music from one of the shows. No appointments are necessary and auditioners will be seen on a first-come first-served basis.

DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Downtown Farm Stand opened yesterday at the corner of Main and Mulberry streets. The natural food store and grocery will be open one day a week through June - Thursdays from 10-7 - to allow us to finish up some store projects and some field planting. In July we plan to have a grand opening with a complete selection of products from local organic and sustainable producers, and responsible regional organic producers. Free Friday Night Movies Downtown begin on June 1. This year the movies will be shown on the south wall of the Downtown Development building, 407 S. Walnut. All movies will begin at dusk. Danner's is moving! Susan has just turned 60 and Dottie is 82 - we want
to simplify our business a bit. We are moving back to our old
neighbourhood, into the Tillotson Plaza, by Coffee Junkiez and SkyLine
Chili, across from Marsh. Our new spot is really bright and sunny and
has manageable property taxes.
We have decided to carry fewer general books, but we will always
specialize in special orders and special service. Our Knitting Nook and
local artists' Gift Shop are going strong and fit our plans for a less
competitive business future. You will all notice our website expand for
online ordering and Danner's will also focus even more on being a hub
for Muncie's creative community by offering more classes, workshops,
book clubs, knitting groups, and other family events.
Our new address will be 744 South Tillotson Avenue, in Muncie, and our
hours will be Tuesdays through Thurdays from Noon to 7:00 p.m., and

Downtown Tour Guides Needed for BSU Orientation
A few more volunteers are still needed to act as Downtown tour guides for the parents of Ball State University orientation students, when they visit Downtown Muncie again this year. Parents will be dropped off Downtown on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:50am, between June 5th and July 13th.
Genny Gordy and Cheryl Crowder will give all "orienteers" a training session on Monday June 4th- 4pm. at the Downtown Development office, 407 S. Walnut Street. If they are unable to attend on Monday, they might consider taking the tour with the parents on Tuesday @ 10:40am. @ Muncie Civic Theater.

Muncie Visitors Bureau has put together Downtown information bags for parents. If you have any printed materials you'd like to make available to the orientation parents, you can bring them to Muncie Civic Theatre, which will be the drop-off and pickup point for the parents. Additionally, discount cards will be given to the parents to use when they return to Muncie for Family Weekend Sept. 28-30, and daily drawings will be held for gift baskets. If you would like to donate an item or items to add to the daily giveaway, please contact Cheryl or Genny.
BSU is working on welcome banners for Walnut St. Artwork will be made available on munciedowntown.com for Downtown businesses and residents who want to print out their own signs to put in their windows. Folks are also encouraged to decorate in red and white themes for window displays and flowerboxes throughout the visitation period.
It was pointed out that the parents want to buy things that say "Muncie". Postcards, tee-shirts, cups, mugs, ect. Inexpensive souvenirs are great!
The students move into town on August 16th. First day of classes are August 20th.

2007 Greenway 5k Run/Walk

A Complete (eventually) Natural Food Store and Grocery will open this Thursday at 125 E Main St - Downtown Muncie, at the corner of Main and Mulberry St.

We have finally done it! We will be open Thursday from 10:00 am to 7:00
pm with, for now, a limited selection of outstanding local, organic, or
sustainable products. Through June we will be open one day a week -
Thursdays - to allow us to finish up some store projects and some field
planting. In July we plan to have a grand opening with a complete
selection of products from local organic and sustainable producers, and
responsible regional organic producers. Be patient with us as we grow,
we had to get final health department and building inspector approval
before we could put the word out about the store, so we apologize for
not being able to give more notice. An LLC partnership between myself
and Tom Gordy, we are going to make sure to uphold strict sustainable
and organic standards - more strict than the USDA, and we will ALWAYS
support and give preference to area local sustainable and organic
farmers. When I told local farmer and quality food producer Bobby
Johnson about our plans and how farmers were going to come first he
said, "well, you understand, you've bled with the rest of us." We had
been discussing how long we have needed such an outlet locally and how
hard it is to sell your products when you are excluded from area
stores. When local products are not available, we will fill in the gaps
with products from Organic Valley, and Eden foods only, as these
companies have regional mid west production, are they are the only
companies that are truly upholding strict standards and paying farmers
what they deserve.

Gallery 308 announces that a new three-day exhibit for June 7 - 9, 2007. The exhibit is presented by Jack's Camera Shop and consists of a special collection of photographs.
The opening reception will be held on Thursday, June 7 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Gallery, 308 East Main Street in downtown Muncie . The public is welcome; admission is free.

Reminder: DBC Meeting and Mixer This Week
Mark your calendars for the next Muncie Downtown Business Council meeting this Wednesday, May 23, at 3:00 pm in The Star Press conference room at 345 S. High Street. Friends and residents of downtown are also invited to join us for a "Meet the Members" mixer on the following evening, Thursday, May 24th, from 5 to 7pm at the Fickle Peach on Charles Street.
You need not be a member to attend the meetings, and Downtown Business Council is not limited to businesses and merchants. Residents, organizations and supporters of downtown in general are all encouraged to take the time to attend. Meetings typically last one hour.
Please take the time to attend the meeting and/or the mixer to learn all about the Downtown Business Council, and our continued efforts to market your business and our downtown neighborhood. Members will be on hand to answer any questions about the Downtown Business Council, and membership applications will be available for anyone who wants to join. New Director at Downtown Development
Downtown Muncie is proud to welcome Jamaal Bell, who has accepted the position of Executive Director for Downtown Development. Jamaal has been an active attendee at the Muncie Downtown Business Council meetings, and we are very much looking forward to working with him in the continued growth of Downtown Muncie.

Free Friday Night Movies Return to Downtown
Downtown Development is proud to announce its fifth season of "Free Friday Night Movies Downtown". These currently released movies are offered free of charge to the public, outside every Friday in June July and August at dusk.
Free Friday Night Movies will move to a new viewing location this year to accommodate the expanding need for parking Downtown on Friday evenings. We will be showing movies on the south wall of the Downtown Development office, in the middle of the 400 block of Walnut St. This lot is located directly to the west of the new office construction on the corner of Walnut and Charles St.
For the last four years, Downtown Development has been able to offer these movies with the help of several community partnerships. Each week a different not-for-profit organization acts as our volunteer group for set-up and tear down, as well as concession sales. Any profit that is generated from concession sales is shared between Downtown Development and that evening's contributing organization. With this arrangement, fourteen not-for-profit groups benefit from the effort and Downtown Development is able to capture the production assistance we need to make the movies happen each week.
When available, we will provide approximately one hour of live entertainment prior to show time from a variety of local volunteer entertainers. In the past we have featured bellydancers, squaredancers, bands, variety acts and more.

The Downtown Business Council invites merchants, friends and residents of downtown to join us for a "Meet the Members" mixer on Thursday, May 24th, from 5 to 7pm at the Fickle Peach on Charles Street.
One free drink voucher will be given to anyone who attends the monthly Downtown Business Council meeting the day before, on Wednesday, May 23rd, at 3:00 in the Star Press conference room, 345 S. High Street in Downtown Muncie.

Cornerstone Art Show Winners Announced
Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie held its first-ever Cornerstone Art Show, a juried art competition, on Wednesday, April 18th. Over 120 individuals participated in the competition, which was judged by six local artists: Julie Beck, Jasen Combs, April ElNaggar, Karen Karki, Danielle Linehan, and Lynette K. Waters-Whitesell.
Participants received prizes from local sponsors, including: Art Mart, Steak 'n Shake, Sunshine Cafe, The Artist Within, the Blue Bottle, Cassella's Kitchen, Kerasotes Theaters, Scotty's Brewhouse, Chili's, the Olive Garden, Clancy's Village Bowl, and Mancino's.
Other sponsors included Ontario Systems and J. Claus Enterprises.

The parents of Ball State University orientation students will be visiting Downtown Muncie again this year, and we need YOU to help show them around!
Parents will be dropped off Downtown on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:50am, between June 5th and July 13th.
Genny Gordy and Cheryl Crowder will offer "training sessions" to anyone who would like to volunteer to be a tour guide.

We liked the idea of Red and white in window displays and flowerboxes throughout the visitation period.
It was pointed out that the parents want to buy things that say "Muncie". Postcards, tee-shirts, cups, mugs, ect. Inexpensive souvenirs are great!
Family Weekend discount cards. If you would like to be involved in a program to get families to return Downtown during this weekend with a special offer or discount, please get that information to Cheryl @ cherylleggs@ameritech.net ASAP so that we can get them designed for the downtown goodie bags. Family weekend is September 28-30.
We would like to do a drawing for "Downtown Dollars" with each visiting group. This could be a general gift certificate that the chosen merchant would honor, or a specifically donated prize for that day. $50 value? Check with Bob Hartley if you would like to donate a specific prize.
The students move into town on August 16th. First day of classes are August 20th.

Cornerstone Celebration Open House
Cornerstone Center for the Arts will be featuring all classes on Sunday, April 29, 2007 in the afternoon from 3:00-6:00pm. The Celebration Open House is a time for students in the areas of dance, visual art, martial arts, language, writing, theatre, and music to showcase what they have been learning. There will be activities throughout the afternoon featuring arts and crafts, refreshments, dance circles, percussion ensembles, and more! This event is open to the public and a perfect chance to see what classes at Cornerstone are like.

BSU Students to Present Downtown Economic Development Plans on April 25
STUDENTS FROM BALL STATE WILL BE PRESENTING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PLANS FOR DOWNTOWN MUNCIE
Muncie, Indiana - Ball State Planning Students will be delivering Economic Development Plans for the Downtown on Wednesday, 1:30-3:30, April 25, 2007, at the Chamber of Commerce Horizon Convention Center Board Room, 401 South High Street.
The students will be covering a variety of topics, which include:
- Site Specific Economic Development Plan for the South End of Downtown
- Roundabout being constructed
- Roberts Hotel and Convention Center
- Bringing Ball State Students to the Downtown
- Economic Development Plan for Muncie Downtown as a whole
- Muncie's Downtown serving Muncie and Delaware County
- Bringing Delawareans to the Downtown
- Strategies to keep Downtown vital
- Revitalizing the Downtown
Hopefully these plans will induce an interest in the downtown, while promoting businesses to take a more proactive approach in stimulating the Downtown's economy. Furthermore, we hope that with the action plans presented, it can bring a better awareness to businesses in the downtown on what they can do and what they can work on.

Gallery 308 to Exhibit "The World of Fiber Art" in May
Throughout the month of May, Gallery 308 will present "The World of Fiber Art," works by Muncie fiber artist Martin George in conjunction with the Indianapolis fiber arts group known as INfiber.
Martin will also give a public presentation on the status of fiber art in today's art world on May 17 at 7 p.m. at the Gallery with his presentation of The World of Fiber Art. The Gallery is located at 308 East Main in downtown Muncie, adjacent to Jack's Camera Shop. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be provided.
With his formal background in Interior Design, Martin has been involved in fiber art since 1996, and has been a member of the INfiber group since 2004 as well as a member of the Indianapolis Quilt Guild and other national quilting organizations.
Martin will present a brief history on fiber art, and provide the audience with an overview on the status of fiber art in today's art world. One goal of this presentation is to begin a dialogue about "What Art Is" and can fiber art be categorized as art, or should it be considered a craft. Can art and craft be separated? Open discussion will be encouraged. The artist's goal is for participants to leave with some facts, but still be motivated to find out more.

Great American Songbook Cabaret at Main Street Studio Theatre

Art instructors Anny Delk, Britt Husman, George Huggins and Christine Royster have selected "the best of the best" from their advanced
two dimensional and three dimensional classes. The show will include drawings, paintings, prints, sculpture, jewelry and pottery. An opening reception is planned for first Thursday, May 3 from 5-8 pm. The show runs from May 1-31, 2007.
The upper level gallery will showcase the work of Laura Blair. A native of Marion, Indiana, Miss Blair is a drawing and painting double major in the Art Department at Ball State University. Laura has exhibited her work in the Ball State Student Art Show, the Minnetrista Annual Juried Show, the Honeywell Center's Annual Photography Show and several group shows at the Artist Within. She will exhibit figure drawings done in a variety of mediums. Her life drawings reflect her interest in the figure and the fluid lines that make up its contour. "Drawn Nude" will run May 1-31, 2007 with an opening reception May 3rd from 5-8 pm.
Heidi J. Hale, local jewelry maker, will continue to teach jewelry classes at the Artist Within.
The Artist Within will continue to offer "Art Clay Silver" workshops. Marti Icenogle of Magickal Dragon Designs, Indianapolis, will be the instructor. She is a Senior Instructor for Art Clay Silver and a Level II Artisan for PMC (Precious Metal Clay).

"Primary" camp for 6-8 year olds will be held M-F July 9-13 from 9am-noon every day; "Intermediate" camp for 9-12 year olds will be held M-F July16-20 from 9am-noon every day. Karen Fisher, of the Art Mart, is offering "Back to Basics", two one week camps emphasizing the 2-D art disciplines of drawing, painting and printing. Her classes are held at the Village store and are: "Primary" grades K-3 June 18-22; "Intermediate" grades 4-6 June 25-29. All art campers will have their work displayed at Gallery 308 in August.

21st Annual "A Taste of Muncie" Winners Announced
Cornerstone Center for the Arts is pleased to announce that there were over 500 attendees to this year’s annual “A Taste of Muncie” a fundraiser to support the programs, events and building at Cornerstone Center for the Arts. The Committee and Cornerstone Staff want to thank the over 20 vendors who donated their product to this cause. We would also like to make mention that our thoughts are with the Clemmons family in light of the recent fire at the 909 Grille and their personal loss. The Muncie Downtown Business Council will meet Wednesday, April 18th, at 3:00 pm in The Star Press conference room, 345 S. High St. Residents, organizations and supporters of downtown in general are all encouraged take the time to attend. Meetings typically last one hour.

The Knitting Nook at Danner's is proud to introduce the Real Men
Knitting Group! Every Tuesday, from 5:30pm to 7:00pm, beginning on
Tuesday, April 10th, men of all levels of experience, even those who
want to learn how to knit, are encouraged to attend the Real Men
Knitting Group at Danner's. Cole Farrell, BookSeller/Knitter and Real
Man at Danner's will lead the group, with the help of Susan Danner,
Linda Gregory and Dottie Danner. There is no fee to attend any Knitting
Group at Danner's, nor registration. Danner's will have snacks, coffee
and soft drinks for all knitters.
Danner's welcomes local author Amber Rigby Grosjean to the bookstore on
Saturday, May 5th, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for the signing of her
new book, Cursed Blood. This book, the story of a woman who believes
that she is under a demonic curse when she is approached by a FBI agent
who claims he has a cure, is in the popular horror genre and is intended
for adults. Please come and meet this Muncie author!
On Saturday, May 19th, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Danner's presents the
Tarot Workshop with Sherita. This Workshop is open to everyone and is a
beginning introduction to what Sherita is best known in Muncie for,
tarot card readings. The Workshop Fee is $15. Sherita recommends that
each student bring their own deck of tarot cards to the Workshop.
Danner's has a wide selection of tarot cards available for purchase for
those who do not have their own.
On Saturday, June 2nd, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Danner's presents the
Basic Beginning Meditation Workshop with Sherita. This Workshop is open
to everyone and is for beginners. Sherita feels that her approach to
meditation is influenced by the Zen traditions. The Workshop Fee is $15.
On Saturday, June 16th, from 3:00 - 4:00 p.m., Danner's presents the
Reiki Workshop with Sherita. Reiki is the Japanese art of hands-on
healing without energy depletion. This Workshop is open to everyone and
is for beginners learning the art and for those interested in healing
with Sherita. The Workshop Fee is $15. Sherita recommends purchasing
Diane Stein's book, Essential Reiki: A Complete Guide to an Ancient

Governor to Cut Ribbon on New Greenway Trail
For those of you who love to walk, run, rollerblade, horseback ride, or bike, Cardinal Greenway is about to officially open fourteen new miles of Greenway. Seven paved miles and seven additional equestrian miles extend the Cardinal from CR 534, near Prairie Creek Reservoir, just past Hwy 36 to the town of Losantville.
On Thursday, April 19, 2007, Governor Mitch Daniels, will cut the ribbon to open this new section.
"It's a great honor to host the Governor," said Teresa Willman, Cardinal Greenway Board President.
"His presence underscores the priority he places on trails as a way to continue to boost the economic impact that trails bring with them," she said.
In May, 2006, Governor Daniels doubled trail funding and often speaks about trails when he discusses economic impact. He has been known to say "we don't have beaches or mountains, but Indiana is great trail country and anything we can build to attract more people to our state, or to keep young people from leaving our state, I'm all for it." Featured Artists Announced for Cornerstone Art Show
The first Cornerstone Art Show, a juried competition, will take place at Cornerstone Center for the Arts on Wednesday, April 18th from 5-8 pm. There will be six featured local artists at the competition. These artists will have their own galleries at the competition and will judge the numerous public entries.
Featured Artists:
* Julie Beck: (Graphic Design) Beck is a senior at Taylor University and is majoring in Visual Arts/New Media. She interned at Stratum Development in Illinois.
* Jasen Combs: (Ceramics) Combs received his BFA in Ceramics from Ball State University. He is an experienced potter who also works at Cornerstone.
* April ElNaggar: (Pottery) ElNaggar received her Masters of Visual Arts from Ball State. She owns her own studio, The Potter's Hands, where she teaches classes.
* Karen Karki: (Photography) Karki studied art at Taylor University. She owns her own freelance photography business.
* Danielle Linehan: (Mixed Media) Linehan operates Danielle Paulson Photography. She plans on continuing her education at George Mason University.
* Lynette K. Waters-Whitesell: (Painting) Whitesell has received many awards and recognitions for her graphic design work. She also received a grant for her work with digital transfers.
These artists will also be giving educational presentations during the day that have been coordinated through local schools.

April at the Artist Within will feature artwork by three Ball State University seniors. Megan King will exhibit multiple exposure photographs in her solo show entitled "Unconscious Prompts". Ben Beaty and Troy Reutebuch will have a two-man Senior Thesis Show of drawings and paintings. Both will be graduated from the Ball State University Art Department.
Megan is finishing her B.F.A. in photography at Ball State this May. Megan's work has been in several juried shows in this area. The Minnetrista Juried Show, the Ball State Student Show, and the LaFontaine Arts Council Regional Show are just a few of the places she has exhibited her work. Her work was also selected for national publication in Photographer's Forum Best of College Photography.
The photographs in this show are the result of her exploring spontaneous and uninhibited image making. All of the images are multiple exposure panoramics taken with a simple toy camera.
Ben is a Muncie native and attended Muncie Southside before entering Ball State. His love of comic books, especially the edgier and/or the more artistic ones has helped with his creativity and motivated him to find a way to incorporate cartoon-like imagery into a "high art" realm. Ben has exhibited work in various student shows at Ball Sate and at the Artist Within. He has also had work in the Minnetrista Juried show.
Troy has exhibited his work in several Ball State student shows, at the Artist Within, and will be in the Watercolor Exhibition forthcoming at the Lamp Gallery in Indianapolis. He has also had work published in The Child Stealers: A Jack Riley Adventure, 2005, Publish America.

The intricate sculptures of BSU professor of art, Bill Zack, and landscapes and still life oil paintings of Margie Prim will grace the walls and pedestals of Gordy Fine Art and Framing during the month of April. An artists' reception will be held on the regular First Thursday, April 5th from 5 to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to meet the artists and view their works.
Bill Zack's sculptural pieces are architectural fantasies upon which figures play, dangle or dance. As a teacher, Zack has been inspiring students at Ball State for over twenty years in the classroom and as the Atrium Gallery Director since 2003. As an artist, he has been consistently active in both creating and exhibiting his works, and has won numerous awards throughout the United States. He is represented in numerous private and corporate collections.
Margie Prim is best known for her "plein air," or on site paintings of landscapes, river and cityscapes of east central Indiana. If Prim's earlier works remind viewers of the popular Impressionism, the newer paintings may favor the controlled wildness of the "Fauves," or "wild beasts" of the early 1900's: Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne.

Derwenskus is a widely exhibited, award-winning artist. She holds a MFA degree from University of Chicago and currently is a painting professor at Ball State University. Prior to her BSU appointment, she taught at various other institutions including Wayne State University, Macomb Community College, and Henry Ford Community College. She has been the recipient of several study grants that have allowed her to travel throughout the US and abroad to pursue her research and experimentation. This has included work with egg tempera and encaustics. Her passion is teaching and she instills in her students a high degree of enthusiasm and confidence.

April at the Artist Within will feature artwork by three Ball State University seniors. Megan King will exhibit multiple exposure photographs in her solo show entitled "Unconscious Prompts". Ben Beaty and Troy Reutebuch will have a two-man Senior Thesis Show of drawings and paintings. Both will be graduated from the Ball State University Art Department.
Megan is finishing her B.F.A. in photography at Ball State this May. Megan's work has been in several juried shows in this area. The Minnetrista Juried Show, the Ball State Student Show, and the LaFontaine Arts Council Regional Show are just a few of the places she has exhibited her work. Her work was also selected for national publication in Photographer's Forum Best of College Photography.
The photographs in this show are the result of her exploring spontaneous and uninhibited image making. All of the images are multiple exposure panoramics taken with a simple toy camera.
Ben is a Muncie native and attended Muncie Southside before entering Ball State. His love of comic books, especially the edgier and/or the more artistic ones has helped with his creativity and motivated him to find a way to incorporate cartoon-like imagery into a "high art" realm. Ben has exhibited work in various student shows at Ball Sate and at the Artist Within. He has also had work in the Minnetrista Juried show.
Troy has exhibited his work in several Ball State student shows, at the Artist Within, and will be in the Watercolor Exhibition forthcoming at the Lamp Gallery in Indianapolis. He has also had work published in The Child Stealers: A Jack Riley Adventure, 2005, Publish America.

An artists' reception will be held on the regular First Thursday, April 5th from 5 to 8 pm. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to meet the artists and view their works.
Bill Zack's sculptural pieces are architectural fantasies upon which figures play, dangle or dance. As a teacher, Zack has been inspiring students at Ball State for over twenty years in the classroom and as the Atrium Gallery Director since 2003. As an artist, he has been consistently active in both creating and exhibiting his works, and has won numerous awards throughout the United States. He is represented in numerous private and corporate collections.
Margie Prim is best known for her "plein air," or on site paintings of landscapes, river and cityscapes of east central Indiana. If Prim's earlier works remind viewers of the popular Impressionism, the newer paintings may favor the controlled wildness of the "Fauves," or "wild beasts" of the early 1900's: Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne.
The exhibit may also be viewed during normal business hours: Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 5:30 PM, Saturday, 9 to 3, or by appointment. Watermedia artist Marilynn Derwenskus will display new works in a new exhibit at Gallery 308 from April 4-28. The opening reception for the exhibit will be April 5 at the gallery. The event is a chance for the public to meet the artist. Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free.
Derwenskus is a widely exhibited, award-winning artist. She holds a MFA degree from University of Chicago and currently is a painting professor at Ball State University. Prior to her BSU appointment, she taught at various other institutions including Wayne State University, Macomb Community College, and Henry Ford Community College. She has been the recipient of several study grants that have allowed her to travel throughout the US and abroad to pursue her research and experimentation. This has included work with egg tempera and encaustics. Her passion is teaching and she instills in her students a high degree of enthusiasm and confidence.

According to his artist statement, this is exactly what Zack seeks. "I believe the greatest gift that visual art can offer is a sense of connection, reflection, and perhaps, inspiration." As a teacher, Zack has been inspiring students at Ball State for over twenty years in the classroom and as the Atrium Gallery Director since 2003. As an artist, he has been consistently active in both creating and exhibiting his works, and has won numerous awards throughout the United States. He is represented in numerous private and corporate collections.

Quiet scenes depicted in thick, energetic strokes of oil paints are the signature style of the soft-spoken artist. Margie paints alone and with other outdoor painters when the weather permits. This past winter forced a new direction for the snow-bound Prim: she began painting from her own former paintings. The result is an exciting look at where she was and where she is now, as an artist. In one instance, the first painting, done six years ago, is a pleasant scene of a woods, a fence and one color-changing tree in the foreground. Her newer painting taken from it, titled, "Red Branches," is vibrant to the point of "glowing," with more contrast, more color, and thicker, freer application. It is Megan's focus to find the right location and chance for her intriguing photographs.

Troy Reutebuch, a native of Winamac, Indiana, grew up with a passion for drawing. He remembers the source for this as being the day he bought his first comic book, Silver Surfer, September 1995. Since that fateful day, graphic media imbued him with the power to strike down his foes with a single image. Now, in this final year of his undergraduate career, Reutebuch prepares to look toward the horizon and face the future head on, yet feels that there is one last piece of business left unfinished…

The Artist Within will continue to offer "Art Clay Silver" workshops. Marti Icenogle of Magickal Dragon Designs, Indianapolis, will be the instructor. She is a Senior Instructor for Art Clay Silver and a Level II Artisan for PMC (Precious Metal Clay). April's workshop is scheduled for all day on Saturday, April 21. The two session "rings" class will begin at 10 am, break for lunch, and resume from 1-3 pm. Art Clay experience recommended.
