Weekly Downtown E-News 5/25/2007

DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS: The Downtown Farm Stand opened yesterday at the corner of Main and Mulberry streets. The natural food store and grocery will be open one day a week through June - Thursdays from 10-7 - to allow us to finish up some store projects and some field planting. In July we plan to have a grand opening with a complete selection of products from local organic and sustainable producers, and responsible regional organic producers. A few more volunteers are still needed to be Downtown tour guides for the BSU Orientation parents. For more information, please call Downtown Development at 282-7897. A training session for "orienteers" will be June 4 at 4:00pm in the Downtown Development office.

Free Friday Night Movies Downtown begin on June 1. This year the movies will be shown on the south wall of the Downtown Development building, 407 S. Walnut. All movies will begin at dusk. Not-for-profit groups will be handling the concession stands -- popcorn, candy bars and other movie goodies. See below for upcoming movies.

26th - Muncie Children's Museum - Free Family Saturday. Free Admission all day. Learn all about caring for race horses at special programs presented by the Kentucky Derby Museum at 11 am & 1 pm.

26th - Doc's presents an intimate concert with Jennie DeVoe at 9:00. Tickets $10.

31st - Muncie Children's Museum - Free Family Saturday - Free Admission all day. Don't miss "Music On The Move" with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra at 11 a.m. Free Saturdays are sponsored by Muncie Sunrise Rotary in memory of Pat Moore.

31st - Cornerstone for the Arts: Cook and Belle, Carl Storie, Sonny Johnson and others will take part in "A Concert of Substance" a fund-raiser for YWCA @ 7pm

1st - Muncie Children's Museum Friends and Family Fun Night featuring "Celebrating Safe Communities" in honor of National Safety Month, 3-7pm.

2nd - The YWCA and Take Five Community Outreach will be holidng a $1 a Bag Rummage Sale at the Muncie YWCA, 310 E Charles Street-- 8:30 am until 2:30 pm .

2nd - Living Lightly Fair, 8am - 4:30pm at the Delaware County Fairgrounds. The fair is free to the public, and will offer a wide variety of activities for all audiences, from children to adults, and from serious environmentalists to homeowners curious about how to lighten their impact on the earth. 2nd - Minnetrista presents Radio Disney Artist Jordan Pruitt in the first concert of Summer Stage Fest at Minnetrista Saturday, June 2 at 7:30 p.m. Free and open to the public

2nd - Cardinal Greenways will celebrate National Trails Day with the 2007 Greenway 5k Run/Walk on June 2, beginning at 9:00 a.m. The event begins and ends at the Historic Wysor Street Depot, 700 E. Wysor St. Registration forms are available at the Depot or on-line at www.cardinalgreenways.org.

2nd-Sept 3 Minnetrista: GPS Adventures - Explore the latest craze in technology with GPS Adventures. Find out how global positioning systems are used not only for serious business, but for fun and recreation. (765) 282-4848.

5th - July 13th - Downtown Muncie tours for parents of BSU orientation students. The parents will be dropped off Downtown on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30am to 11:50am, between June 5th and July 13th.

11th - July 26th - The Cornerstone Arts Program is excited to introduce its summer classes, which will run from June 11th-July 26th. The Arts Program offers classes for youth and adults in numerous areas of the arts. Register online at www.cornerstonearts.org. Cornerstone Center for the Arts announces (k)ids Arts Scholarship Program for students 4th-12th grade who want to pursue dance, music, theatre or visual arts. Deadline June 1st.
