Weekly Downtown E-News 8/2/07

DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS: Volunteers are desperately needed to work the admission gates on Saturday for this weekend's Rib Fest. Three volunteers are needed from 11:30am to 3pm, and six people are needed to work from 3 to 6pm. Please spread the word, and if you or anyone you know is willing to help out, please call Cheryl Crowder ASAP at the Downtown Development office, 282-7897. Thanks for your help!!

Stop Downtown after work this evening for First Thursdays, with art exhibit openings at all our galleries, and meet-the-artist receptions from 5 to 8pm.

AUGUST EVENTS:

2nd - First Thursday from 5 to 8pm. Downtown's many art galleries host meet-the-artist receptions and spotlight their exhibit openings for the month. All the specialty and gift shops are open late on this evening; and music and light refreshments can be found at almost every stop for a free, family fun event.

2nd - The Muncie Young Professionals Group will have their monthly Downtown Wind Down today from 5:00-6:30 at the Fickle Peach, 117 East Charles Street. Come mingle with members and stay downtown after to take in the First Thursday gallery openings. This event takes place the first Thursday of each month.

3rd - Free Friday Night Movies Downtown featuring "Flushed Away." Movies begin at dusk and will be shown on the south wall of the Downtown Development office.

3rd - Freaki Tiki Friday with free live music at the Blue Bottle, 5pm - ? Call call 284-3630 for info.

3rd - Muncie Civic Theatre presents Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, 7:30pm. Reservations and ticket sales are available by calling 765-288-PLAY.

3rd - Muncie Children's Museum - Friends & Family Fun Night. Free admission from 3 pm to 7 pm. August's fun night, "Under the Sea", offers visitors activities, crafts and stories centered around the mystic deep blue sea!

4-5th - Rib Fest returns to Downtown Muncie from noon-10:00p.m.on Aug. 4, .and August 5th from 11:00a.m.-4:00p.m. on Walnut St. in Historic Downtown Muncie. 20 food vendors, kid's activities, 13 live bands, beer gardens and much more. 15th - Wellness Wednesdays every third Wednesday through October at the Wysor Street depot, 9:00 am - 11:00 am. Delaware County Health Department staff will offer free blood pressure and glucose testing. Cholesterol screening is also available for a small charge. 29th - The Downtown Business Council will meet Wednesday, August 29th, at 3:00 p.m. in the conference room at The Star Press building, 345 S. High St. Downtown Business Council is not limited to businesses and merchants. Residents, organizations and supporters of downtown in general are all encouraged to attend.

Through August 4 - Minnetrista Cultural Center presents Quilts Fill Our Lives: An American Legacy. This exhibit also includes the Quilters Hall of Fame Celebration, an annual honoring of quilts and quilt history that has been taking place in Marion, Ind. since 1992. Every Wednesday and Friday at 3 p.m., children of all ages can enjoy gardening, nature and the environment in the Museum's Outdoor Learning Center. Through October 28 - Minnetrista Farmers Market in the Orchard Shop Parking Lot meets every Saturday, now through October 28 8:00 am - 12:00 Noon; and every Wednesday now through October 25 4:00 pm until sold out.
Come enjoy a summer tradition here in Muncie at the Farmers Market at Minnetrista. Browse vendors for locally grown fresh vegetables, herbs, flowers (hanging baskets, annuals & perennials), honey, bakery items, eggs, fruits, cheeses and savory meats and more (as well as all your favorite items from the Orchard Shop). . The last Saturday of every month will feature cooking demonstrations using fresh produce and other items from the Farmers Market. Delicious foods created by chefs from the American Culinary Federation will be in the Orchard Shop courtyard. Sweet corn and tomatoes are now available too!!
