Weekly Downtown E-News 4/24/08

Downtown Announcements: Bring the kids downtown this Saturday, April 26th for Spring Zing - Family Fun Day Downtown. Spring Zing will take place in the streets of downtown Muncie from 10am to 5pm. Lots of kids activities, demonstrations and performances, including St. Louis Sprockets Skateboard/Trick Bike demo and more.

Civic Duty is an all-ages rock concert to benefit Muncie Civic Theatre, and will be held Friday, April 26th at Civic. Doors open at 6:30, show starts at 7. Performing will be James Brown Car Alarm, Dreams of University, Cory Hill, Know More Robots, The Spitshine and Woodlands.

APRIL EVENTS :

24th - Customer Service Excellence Workshop, 8 - 11:30a.m. at the Horizon Center. Sponsored by the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce, Joe Constance, President of Constant Training, will facilitate the program. Email bbrumfield@muncie.com for info.

25th - The next After 5 event at Minnetrista will take place Friday, April 25 from 5:30 - 8 p.m. The event will feature an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of The Minnetrista Heritage Collection, followed by Wine 101 - find out what you don't know about wines. $10 per person, space is limited.

25th - There will be a "Rally in the Alley" at Republican Headquarters located at 301 W. Main St. on Friday, April 25th at 4 pm - ?. Pork Burgers, baked beans, chips and dessert for a small fee. Beer and soda cash bar available. For information contact Republican HQ at 289-2448.

25th - Muncie Ballet presents Alice in Wonderland 7pm held at the Cornerstone for the Arts. for more details call 282-1480 or www.MuncieBallet.org

25th - The Living Room presents Joel Levi. Opening up for Joel will be Charlie Peacock (Grammy award-winning songwriter and record producer...myspace.com/charliepeacockmusic) and Kyle Kern. Then Joel Levi will take the stage (myspace.com/joellevimusic). Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 8:30pm.

25th & 26th - Main Street Studio Theatre will present ASSASSINS on Fridays and Saturdays April 25, 26, May 2, 3, 9 & 10 at 8:00pm. The performances will be at Main Street Studio Theatre, 222 East Main Street. For tickets and information call 765-288-PLAY.

26th - Cardinal Greenways will hold its 2nd Annual Run for the Season 5K run and walk, for details call 287-0399

26th - The Muncie YWCA, Weed & Seed, Del. Co. Coordinaing Council for the Prevention of Substance Abuse, United Way of Delaware County, Parents Encouraging Parents and Fight Against Drugs and Violence will celebrate SPIRIT DAY and the public is invited. The YWCA will host speakers and resouce providers in the morning. Free "toolbox" kits with information for parents will be offered. Then at 1 pm join us in Heekin Park for an outdoor festival with games, face-painting, and an outdoor cookout. Singers, dancers and a Youth Idol Karaoke Contest will also be part of the fun. Festivities will continue until 5 pm. For more information contact the YWCA.

26th - Cameron Sprinkle and Karissa Beer will be headlining a show at The Living Room. David Lowry and Stevie Shale will be opening up for them. Doors open at 8pm, show starts at 8:30pm.

26th - The Artist Within will host a book signing from 3-5pm with two authors, John R. Anderson, local behavioral counselor and author of "The Empowered Parent: How to Parent Without Frustration, Anger and Guilt," and with Michael Hoars, licensed mental health counselor and author of the book "Life is Not A Sound Bite: Cultural Crisis in America."

27th - Cornerstone Center for the Arts Spring Celebration Open House, 2-5pm. Activities include crafts, refreshments, performances, free class session in Hip Hop, Aerobics, Belly Dance, Dance and Fitness, art demonstrations, a music recital and more! 30th - Muncie Downtown Business Council meets at 3pm in the Star Press building conference room. You do not have to be a member to attend the meetings.

APRIL ONGOING :

Through April 26th - Gallery 308 welcomes Dan Burkholder's Photo Exhibit "The Color of Loss; An Intimate Portrait of New Orleans after Katrina" in April. Join us Thursday April 3 from 5-9 p.m. for his new exhibit and book signing. The show will run thru April 26th.

Through April 26th - Gordy Fine Art & Framing will present "The Frame Show: Framus Fantasticus" on display through April. The Frame Show opens during the monthly First Thursday art event on April 3rd from 5 to 8 PM. Peter Blume will offer remarks about the framing at 6:30 PM. Light refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend.

Through April 30th - "Wax and Water" will showcase the talents of several local artists during April at The Artist Within April 1 through April 30, with an opening reception Thursday, April 3 from 5-8pm.

Through April 30th - Artworks will exhibit "Totemic Spirit in Clay," a new exhibition by Judy Wojcik. An opening reception will be held during First Thursday, April 3, 5:30pm to 8:30pm.
