God's Favorite takes place at the Benjamin mansion on the North Shore of Long Island. Neil Simon's adaptation of the Book of Job includes a tycoon, his wife, a messenger from God, a prodigal son, and a pair of dim-witted siblings. One night a messenger from God, Sidney Lipton, arrives and as in the biblical story, tries desperately to get Joe Benjamin to renounce God. When Joe refuses he is visited by all afflictions imaginable, including lightning strikes, health problems, and even seeing the cardboard box factory burn to the ground. This hilarious story combines Neil Simon's ability to bring wit, humor, and all manner of entertainment into one fantastic play!
Presented by special arrangement through Samuel French, Inc.
