Three New Exhibits at Minnetrista
Three new exhibits are featured at Minnetrista: Open Space: Art About the Land; Snakes, Rattles and Holes; and Earthworks.
Visit the galleries at Minnetrista September 20-October 19 for a look at Open Space: Art About the Land. Open Space: Art About the Land is an art competition and exhibition which recognizes and encourages artists in East Central Indiana who derive creative inspiration from the land, or whose work celebrates the notion of open space as it relates to the land.
A portion of the proceeds from the exhibit will go to help the Red-tail Conservancy further its mission to preserve and restore ecologically significant land in East Central Indiana.
Admission is $4 child/student, $6 senior and $7 adult. Exhibit hours are Mon. - Sat., 9 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., Sun., 11 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Snakes, Rattles and Holes, created by Purdue University's Department of Agricultural Communication, is a walk-through replica of a snake's skeleton that utilizes videos, artifacts, text panels and interactive elements to teach visitors about snakes of the Midwestern United States.
Starting at the mouth, visitors can climb under 24-inch fangs into the 69-foot snake's body and follow the same route the snake's prey would follow as it is devoured.
The exhibit features displays about the way snakes hunt and eat, shed, reproduce, and move. It also has information about snake colors, habitats, internal anatomy, senses, bones and muscles, venom, rattles, affects on human health, and pest control.
The exhibit runs from Sept. 20 through January 4. Admission is FREE to members. General Admission is $4 child/student; $6 senior; $7 adult.

Native American cultures that once flourished in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and West Virginia constructed geometric and animal-shaped earth works that often rivaled Stonehenge in their astronomical accuracy. Earthworks, featured at Minnetrista September 27 - January 9, will include virtual reconstructions of these works from 39 sites.
Earthworks includes topographic models, virtual artifact kiosks and, at the heart of the exhibit, an interactive video navigation system developed by the Center for the Electronic Reconstruction of the Historical and Achaeological Sites (CERHAS) at the University of Cincinnati. The video navigation system combines the best of three media formats: the exploratory nature of virtual reality, multimedia and narrative video.

October at The Artist Within
The Artist Within will feature artwork by two local artists during October. Thurman Grantham will showcase new sculptural pieces in "Thurman's World of Flowers", an exhibit of plants "from another world'. Grantham uses auto body plastic to create his unique florals and has displayed his work at F.B. Fogg and Art Works.
Yorktown native Brent Engelmann will display his digital photo collages through October. Several of his pieces are based on musicians from the past as well as some who are still performing. "Trippin' through the 70's" includes photos of rock legends Led Zeppelin, Cream, the Allman Brothers Band and the Beach Boys. Bob Marley,
B. B. King and the Rolling Stones are just a few featured in their own individual collages.
Brent explains that what he would like to do is to create custom digital photo collages for individuals, groups and businesses based on their own photographs or photos taken by him.
During first Thursday's ArtsWalk, the upstairs gallery will exhibit consignment artwork and be the site for the Rose H. Meyer Memorial Scholarship Fund Designer Clothing Boutique. Beautiful, gently used clothes and accessories will be sold at drastically reduced prices to raise money for the scholarship fund.
Opening reception Thursday Oct. 2nd/5-9.
The fourth annual "Create for the Cure" will take place from October 1-4.
Local artists have painted a "Plate for the Cure" and the plates they painted will be in a silent auction during the week and the winning bids will be notified Sun. October 5th and the monies will be donated to the Komen Foundation. Come join the fun and help a worthy cause.

Artworks presents Beadmaker Lisa Atchison and Harpist Megan Upchurch
Artworks Gallery will exhibit Lisa Atchison's "Turning Over a New Leaf," with an opening reception during ArtsWalk on Thursday, October 2. Music will be provided by harpist Megan Upchurch.In 2003, not long after discovering handmade beads and artistic jewelry, Lisa Atchison entered the world of lampworking and never looked back.
With nature as her inspiration, she strives for an ethereal and organic, yet soft, elegant style in her handmade glass beads. This is accomplished by using soft flowing colors, cubic zirconia, fine silver, copper, hand pulled cane and handmade murrini glass. A secondary process of copper electroforming, using leaves from her yard is often incorporated.
Lisa has studied lampworking with some of the finest instructors including Kate Fowle Meleny, Larry Scott, Michael Barley, Andrea Guarino-Slemmons, Trey Cornette and Brent Graber. Aside from lampworking, and her other interest, photography, Lisa works full time for an engineering firm in Indianapolis. She is an active member of the Indiana Society of Lampwork and Art Glass Artists (ISLAGA), the International Society of Glass Beadmakers (ISGB) and the Indiana Bead Society (IBS). She has been married to her best friend and husband, Steve, since 1983.
Megan Upchurch is a freelance harpist and vocalist based out of Muncie, Indiana. Although she has performed with the Ball State Symphony Orchestra, the Muncie Symphony Orchestra, and the Marion Philharmonic, she goes beyond the restriction of the symphony hall and out into the streets of Muncie. Megan can be found performing anywhere from the Renaissance Faire to the local Farmer's Market: or from an elegant Minnetrista event, to the local drum circle in downtown Muncie. Megan has had the privilege of studying harp at Ball State with the distinguished Elizabeth Richter. She has also studied voice at Ball State with the international performer Dr. Mei Zhong.

Minnetrista, along with the Academy of Model Aeronautics, The Muncie Children's Museum and the Ball State Museum of Art will participate in the fourth annual Museum Day, presented by Smithsonian magazine Saturday, September 27, 2008.
Museum Day is a day when museums and cultural institutions nationwide open their doors free of charge to Smithsonian magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors. A celebration of culture, learning and the dissemination of knowledge, Smithsonian's Museum Day reflects the spirit of the magazine, and emulates the free-admission policy of the Smithsonian Institution's Washington, DC-based properties.
Last year, upwards of 100,000 people attended Museum Day. All 50 states plus Puerto Rico were represented by 651 participating museums.

Downtown Business Council Meets Wednesday
The Muncie Downtown Business Council will meet Wednesday, Sept. 24th, at 3pm in the Star Press building conference room. DBC meetings typically last one hour.
Following the meeting, the Downtown Business Council float building party for the BSU Homecoming parade will be at 6pm at Muncie Sign Shop, 1912 N Granville Ave.
The homecoming parade is Saturday, Sept. 27, with lineup at at Central High School between 7 and 8am. We need people to walk with the Downtown float! Call Cheryl Crowder at (765) 282-7897 if you want to help represent Downtown Muncie in the parade.
Downtown Business Council is an excellent opportunity to network with your downtown peers, keep informed of downtown happenings, and learn all about the Downtown Business Council and our continued efforts to market your business and our downtown neighborhood.

Middletown Idol Returns to Cornerstone
Cornerstone Center for the Arts in Muncie will be presenting Middletown Idol on October 8th-11th in the Edmund Burke Ball Auditorium.
This year's competition welcomes solo and group vocalists as well as solo and group dance contestants. Contestants from ages 14 through adult are invited to come out and compete.
Dance preliminaries will be held on Wednesday, October 8th with vocal preliminaries held on Thursday, October 9th. The final competition for all categories will be on Saturday, October 11th. All performances are at 7:00 p.m.
First, second, and third place winners in each category will be determined on Saturday Oct. 11. Over $2,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded!

Living Lightly and the Downtown Farm Stand
The Downtown Farm Stand is proud to once again participate in the second annual Living Lightly Fair! A FREE resource fair for sustainable lifestyles, it is aimed at educating East Central Indiana residents about practical ways to live more sustainably, saving money and resources for themselves and future generations. The fair is this Saturday, September 20th, 9 a.m.-9 p.m., at Minnetrista in Muncie. Parking is available at the fairgrounds.
I will be participating in two ways at the fair this year, I will be a food vendor during lunch and I am a presenter from 5 - 6 pm in the Theater. Please come and check out the fair and support The Downtown Farm Stand while you're there in the following ways...
Lunch - I will be selling chicken or veggie fajitas outside during lunch from 11:45 am to 1:15 pm or sold out, whichever comes first. The chicken will be from The Farm Stand and is from the fabulously sustainable Gunthorpe Farms in Lagrange, Indiana. All other food ingredients will sustainable local, or organic, and very tasty... I look forward to seeing you there!
Presentation - I will be speaking from 5 - 6 pm in the Theater at Minnetrista. The theme will be about "Building a Sustainable Local Food System". What it is, what are the benefits, the obstacles, and what can we, as individuals, do to contribute to creating a local sustainable food system. I hope to have a lot of Q & A and some great interaction from the audience. In short, let's show the organizers of the fair, and our area leaders how important sustainable agriculture and food issues are to the people of Delaware County by showing up to my presentation. Thanks for your support!
Open Sundays
Our first two Sundays have gone really well and we look forward to seeing you at the store on Sundays. It is already helping in managing our produce by having the store open an extra day, so this is just a reminder we are now open 12 - 5 pm on Sundays. Thanks again for the support!
The Best Food
This is a good time for a reminder to tell those of you new to the e-mail newsletter that we have the best food available anywhere in East Central Indiana! Quite a claim to make I know. Why do I feel comfortable making such a claim? Because we are truly different than other grocery stores. Our products are chosen because of their attributes. Do they give more back to us other than just empty calories? Are they the most nutritious? Do they taste really good? Do they contribute to building a healthy environment instead of detracting from it? Does their production improve the lives of the people that produce it instead of exploiting them because they are desperate for money?
These are all questions that we can answer yes to at The Downtown Farm Stand. We strive to buy local and organic food produced sustainably whenever possible. It is our goal to build a local sustainable food system. If we can't find things locally, we fill in the gaps with products from highly responsible regional producers.
Companies like Eden Foods and Organic Valley that promote and are philosophically behind organic and sustainable agriculture. Companies that purchase from family farms that pay their employees fair wages. When we buy products from other areas of the world we look for Fair Trade Certified products that give back to communities. Every out of area product in our store is certified organic - not just "natural". I know of no other store that is just like us. We look forward to getting know you all better in the coming months and we hope to continue to wow you with great products and that have added values.

That was the theme at the National Slow Food Conference this year. I wanted to send a link to an article in the Washington Post that detailed this years event. A great article about a great conference. All of my food and agriculture mentors were there from Alice Waters, to Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser, Wendell Berry, Vandana Shiva, Rick Bayless and more.
The final quote at the end says exactly what I was saying above ...

Presentation - I will be speaking from 5 - 6 pm in the Theater at Minnetrista. The theme will be about "Building a Sustainable Local Food System". What it is, what are the benefits, the obstacles, and what can we, as individuals, do to contribute to creating a local sustainable food system. I hope to have a lot of Q & A and some great interaction from the audience. In short, let's show the organizers of the fair, and our area leaders how important sustainable agriculture and food issues are to the people of Delaware County by showing up to my presentation. Open Sundays
Our first two Sundays have gone really well and we look forward to seeing you at the store on Sundays. It is already helping in managing our produce by having the store open an extra day, so this is just a reminder we are now open 12 - 5 pm on Sundays. Thanks again for the support!
The Best Food
This is a good time for a reminder to tell those of you new to the e-mail newsletter that we have the best food available anywhere in East Central Indiana! Quite a claim to make I know. Why do I feel comfortable making such a claim? Because we are truly different than other grocery stores. Our products are chosen because of their attributes. Do they give more back to us other than just empty calories? Are they the most nutritious? Do they taste really good? Do they contribute to building a healthy environment instead of detracting from it? Does their production improve the lives of the people that produce it instead of exploiting them because they are desperate for money?
These are all questions that we can answer yes to at The Downtown Farm Stand. We strive to buy local and organic food produced sustainably whenever possible. It is our goal to build a local sustainable food system. If we can't find things locally, we fill in the gaps with products from highly responsible regional producers.
Companies like Eden Foods and Organic Valley that promote and are philosophically behind organic and sustainable agriculture. Companies that purchase from family farms that pay their employees fair wages. When we buy products from other areas of the world we look for Fair Trade Certified products that give back to communities. Every out of area product in our store is certified organic - not just "natural". I know of no other store that is just like us. We look forward to getting know you all better in the coming months and we hope to continue to wow you with great products and that have added values.

That was the theme at the National Slow Food Conference this year. I wanted to send a link to an article in the Washington Post that detailed this years event. A great article about a great conference. All of my food and agriculture mentors were there from Alice Waters, to Michael Pollan, Eric Schlosser, Wendell Berry, Vandana Shiva, Rick Bayless and more.
The final quote at the end says exactly what I was saying above ...

Second Annual Living Lightly Fair Returns to Minnetrista
An internationally recognized conservationist and Indiana-based musicians with international and national reputations will headline Muncie's second annual Living Lightly Fair from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sept. 20 at Minnetrista.
The Living Lightly Fair will offer hundreds of practical tips to homeowners, nature lovers, gardeners, parents, children, do-it-yourselfers and others interested in greener living, alternative energy, recycling and healthier environments. The fair organizers describe living lightly as learning how to use fewer resources and reduce costs as individuals and businesses.
The fair also will feature 17 presentations, a community leaders round table, three musical performances, a visiting artist, four stations of activities and workshops for children. A green marketplace of more than 45 vendors and exhibitors will showcase local and regional providers of sustainable living products and ideas.
Local organic and ethnic food will be served during the day-long event.
Four community leaders will share their accomplishments and visions for creating more sustainable lifestyles for area residents at a roundtable from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Round table panel members will be Sharon McShirley, mayor of Muncie; Sue Errington, a state senator; Terry Murphy, Muncie/Delaware County Chamber of Commerce; and Kevin Smith, the former mayor of Anderson.
Moderator for the panel will be Muncie City Council at-large member Linda Gregory. After panel members make a brief presentation, questions from the audience will be taken.
The keynote speaker will be Jerome Ringo, who is president of the Apollo Alliance and the first African-American to lead a major environmental group. The Apollo Alliance is a national coalition of business, labor and environmental and community leaders who are catalysts for adopting clean energies, cutting carbon emissions and reducing the country's dependence on foreign oil.
Ringo has taken the concerns of the alliance to more than 75 audiences, including the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the National Conference of State Legislatures and the U.S. Green Building Council. He also appeared in Al Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth."
Ringo served as chairman of the board for the National Wildlife Federation from 2005-07 and remains on the NWF board as immediate former board chairman. He joined the NWF board in 1996. His reverence for the land started as a child in Southern Louisiana where he would fish, catch crabs and hunt for duck, goose and deer. Through his work with NWF, his major area of concern has been giving hope to the future of wildlife along Louisiana's coasts, in the Everglades and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
Musicians Malcolm Dalglish and Carrie Newcomer will entertain fair goers. Both musicians are headquartered in Bloomington, Ind.
Dalglish is a hammer dulcimer player and a founding member of the folk/Celtic trio Metamora. His specialty is composing for choir. Children's choirs throughout the world have commissioned his folk-inspired music. He has recorded nine albums. He will perform from noon to 1 p.m.
Newcomer is a nationally known singer/songwriter who grew up in Elkhart, Ind. She got her start in the group Stone Soup, but as a solo artist she has produced 11 albums. Her styles include jazz, blues, folk and rock. Major media throughout the United States have recognized and praised her work. She will perform from 7-8:30 p.m.
Prior to Newcomer's performance, The Great Divide, a local musical group, will perform from 6 to 6:45 p.m.

Children and Youth Choir at Cornerstone
Join the Children's Choir or the Youth Choir now! Cornerstone Center for the Arts is now accepting registration for a Children's Choir for children in grades 3-5 and for a Youth Choir for children in grades 6-8.
Choir practice will begin Tuesday, September 16th and run weekly through the end of May. Under the direction of Dr. Christina Lamb, students will learn a variety of quality music in an educational setting. Students will practice for two community performances. The Children's Choir for 3rd to 5th grades will meet on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:15pm. The Youth Choir for 6th to 8th grades will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00pm.
All students are welcome! The fee is $140 for the year (September to May). A payment plan of $20 per month for seven months is also available. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Choir practice will begin Tuesday, September 16th and run weekly through the end of May. Under the direction of Dr. Christina Lamb, students will learn a variety of quality music in an educational setting. Students will practice for two community performances. The Children's Choir for 3rd to 5th grades will meet on Tuesdays from 5:00-6:15pm. The Youth Choir for 6th to 8th grades will meet on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00pm.
All students are welcome! The fee is $140 for the year (September to May). A payment plan of $20 per month for seven months is also available. Financial aid is available for those who qualify.

Muncie Civic Theatre presents God's Favorite, a Neil Simon comedy, running September 12th-27th. Performances are at 7:30pm for Thursday-Saturday shows and 2:00pm for the Sunday, September 14th matinee. Old Washington Street Festival This Weekend
Be a part of all the excitement and festivities during the Annual Old Washington Street Festival this weekend, September 13 & 14, 2008. The 32nd annual festival will be held on the four blocks of East Washington Street between Madison and Hackley Streets on Saturday from 10am to 5pm, and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.
The primary focus of the Old Washington Street Festival is on the architectural, cultural, and social heritage of Muncie's Emily Kimbrough Historic District and the surrounding neighborhood. Home tours and a walking tour extend the bounds of the Festival to approximately fourteen square blocks.
At the hub of the Festival on Washington Street are demonstrations of crafts contemporary to the turn of the Emily Kimbrough Housecentury, arts and crafts displays, musical entertainment, an ice cream social and other refreshments, antiques, a milk wagon and a hand-drawn fire pumper to take visitors back to the gas boom era. We expect the variety of attractions to draw over 8,000 people.

This is the third show in the newly renovated Cornerstone Gallery. The gallery is located on the second floor of our building. The gallery will continue to exhibit and promote the artwork of Cornerstone students and instructors, local high school and college students, as well as local and regional artists. The Downtown Farm Stand has joined Blue Bottle and White River Landing in offering Sunday hours.
Downtown Farm Stand is located at 125 E Main St, at the corner of Main and Mulberry streets in Downtown Muncie. Hours are Monday thru Saturday, 10:00 am-7:00 pm, and Sunday 12 - 5 pm. Call 765-288-3775 for more info.

We have a lot of parking available right on Main street in front of our door, also in the two hour city lot right behind the building with access off of Jackson, and in the surrounding parking lots. If you need help finding these areas, just ask! Many people find we are very convenient if you need to get in and out quickly and do not have time to walk through a big parking lot and wander through a huge store. You can always find a friendly face to ask for help!
Open Sundays 12- 5 pm! - Did you know that Sundays are the second busiest shopping day of the week? Neither did I until I read it recently. We had been debating for a while, but it's just became obvious that we needed to be open on Sundays. We look forward to filling your weekend needs for high quality local organic food. We need to be open as much as possible now because we want to generate income to open our commercial kitchen to have a deli and to begin to collect a much needed paycheck for our work here. Opening on the second busiest shopping day of the week is a good place to start to ramp up business.
Equipment - We are on the lookout for kitchen equipment for our deli. I have been an extremely lucky scrounger thus far and have been able to find almost all of our equipment for free. The tough economic times mean that a lot of businesses come and go, and so far we have been able to find a lot of things. We hope to continue to do so, so help us out with any tips that you have. We are specifically looking for ...

Local Produce - It's that time of year when our shelves become more and more stocked with local food. We're enjoying local pears and apples, peppers and tomatoes, zucchini and okra, onions, garlic, and potatoes, and just about anything else that grows nearby. All of our producers are friends and neighbors, people we know and trust. Folks that raise food with respect for the environment and for the people eating it, and for the animals they raise. We hope you can take advantage of this local bounty and enjoy the many great foods available. As one of our customers put it, "It may be local food week around the country, but every week is local food week at The Downtown Farm Stand." Hey that's the idea, right?
Food For Thought - An Open Letter to the Delaware County Commissioners
Tuesday of this week I had this letter submitted for the record and Julie Alexander read it for me at the County Commissioners meeting since I had to work at the store. It says some things I thought you all might be interested in:
Hello, I am Dave Ring, a resident of Delaware County, owner of Ring Family Farm, and owner of The Downtown Farm Stand in Muncie.
The Downtown Farm Stand is a grocery store that specializes in locally produced organic and sustainable food such as 100% grass fed meats and dairy products, pastured poultry, organic and local fruits and vegetables, local honey, grains, and hand crafted items. In a recent planing commission meeting Chairman David Howell suggested that there were no alternatives to Confined Animal Feeding Operations, industrial agriculture, and the subsequent poisoning of our environment. He suggested that to say otherwise would mean going back to the days of "Ma and Pa Kettle".
I would like to inform the commissioners that there is indeed a thriving alternative in Delaware County. With no assistance from any government entities and built only through the sheer demand of it's local citizens and the hard work and of it's producers, Delaware County now has the beginning of a local sustainable food system.
It is our goal to take advantage of the fastest growing segment of agriculture in the United States of America for the last 15 years - organic and sustainable farming. With our local industrial economy having long ago failed, we are dependent only on the existence of Ball State University - the saving grace of our community. With the national economy lagging in large part due to the increased expenses of natural resources, it is our belief that it is necessary to begin the production of our food closer to home in a sustainable method that uses far fewer petroleum products. There is no better time than now.
We can be a leader in the state of Indiana in sustainable agriculture. We can attract investment, put people to work, and rehabilitate our family farmsteads by putting families back onto the land. Sustainable organic farming is the perfect compliment to an education based community. High -value sustainable agriculture with many value added spin-off businesses is the key to building local economies.
The most important step in that process today is to make sure that this area remains viable for organic and sustainable agriculture by voting for a C.A.F.O. moratorium which would enable us to adhere to USDA guidelines in all parts of the county for organic agriculture. I implore you today to to think positively of our future and vote yes for a moratorium on new confined animal feeding operations in Delaware County.

Many people find we are very convenient if you need to get in and out quickly and do not have time to walk through a big parking lot and wander through a huge store. Open Sundays 12- 5 pm! - Did you know that Sundays are the second busiest shopping day of the week? Neither did I until I read it recently. We had been debating for a while, but it's just became obvious that we needed to be open on Sundays. We look forward to filling your weekend needs for high quality local organic food. We need to be open as much as possible now because we want to generate income to open our commercial kitchen to have a deli and to begin to collect a much needed paycheck for our work here. Opening on the second busiest shopping day of the week is a good place to start to ramp up business.
Equipment - We are on the lookout for kitchen equipment for our deli. I have been an extremely lucky scrounger thus far and have been able to find almost all of our equipment for free. The tough economic times mean that a lot of businesses come and go, and so far we have been able to find a lot of things. We hope to continue to do so, so help us out with any tips that you have. Local Produce - It's that time of year when our shelves become more and more stocked with local food. We're enjoying local pears and apples, peppers and tomatoes, zucchini and okra, onions, garlic, and potatoes, and just about anything else that grows nearby. All of our producers are friends and neighbors, people we know and trust. Folks that raise food with respect for the environment and for the people eating it, and for the animals they raise. We hope you can take advantage of this local bounty and enjoy the many great foods available. As one of our customers put it, "It may be local food week around the country, but every week is local food week at The Downtown Farm Stand." Hey that's the idea, right?
Food For Thought - An Open Letter to the Delaware County Commissioners
Tuesday of this week I had this letter submitted for the record and Julie Alexander read it for me at the County Commissioners meeting since I had to work at the store. It says some things I thought you all might be interested in:
Hello, I am Dave Ring, a resident of Delaware County, owner of Ring Family Farm, and owner of The Downtown Farm Stand in Muncie.
The Downtown Farm Stand is a grocery store that specializes in locally produced organic and sustainable food such as 100% grass fed meats and dairy products, pastured poultry, organic and local fruits and vegetables, local honey, grains, and hand crafted items. In a recent planing commission meeting Chairman David Howell suggested that there were no alternatives to Confined Animal Feeding Operations, industrial agriculture, and the subsequent poisoning of our environment. He suggested that to say otherwise would mean going back to the days of "Ma and Pa Kettle".
I would like to inform the commissioners that there is indeed a thriving alternative in Delaware County. With no assistance from any government entities and built only through the sheer demand of it's local citizens and the hard work and of it's producers, Delaware County now has the beginning of a local sustainable food system.
It is our goal to take advantage of the fastest growing segment of agriculture in the United States of America for the last 15 years - organic and sustainable farming. With our local industrial economy having long ago failed, we are dependent only on the existence of Ball State University - the saving grace of our community. With the national economy lagging in large part due to the increased expenses of natural resources, it is our belief that it is necessary to begin the production of our food closer to home in a sustainable method that uses far fewer petroleum products. There is no better time than now.
We can be a leader in the state of Indiana in sustainable agriculture. We can attract investment, put people to work, and rehabilitate our family farmsteads by putting families back onto the land. Sustainable organic farming is the perfect compliment to an education based community. High -value sustainable agriculture with many value added spin-off businesses is the key to building local economies.
The most important step in that process today is to make sure that this area remains viable for organic and sustainable agriculture by voting for a C.A.F.O. moratorium which would enable us to adhere to USDA guidelines in all parts of the county for organic agriculture. I implore you today to to think positively of our future and vote yes for a moratorium on new confined animal feeding operations in Delaware County.
