Based on the Gospel According to St. Matthew, and featuring a sparkling score by Stephen Schwartz, GODSPELL is one of the biggest Broadway successes of all time. The tuneful score features a string of well-loved songs, led by the international hit "Day By Day." As the cast performs "Prepare Ye The Way Of The Lord," "All Good Gifts," "Learn Your Lessons Well," "All For The Best," "Turn Back, O Man," and "By My Side," the parables of Jesus Christ come humanly and hearteningly to life. Drawing from various theatrical traditions, such as clowning, pantomime, charades, acrobatics and vaudeville, GODSPELL is a groundbreaking and unique reflection on the life of Jesus, with a message of kindness, tolerance and love. The New York Post called GODSPELL "A hit! A big, big, hit. GODSPELL believes in God – and people – and possibility," while Billboard said "GODSPELL turns the theatre into a joyous palace!" and NBC-TV raved "It's marvelous...it says 'love thy neighbor' and it means it."
GODSPELL is directed by professional guest artist Matthew C. Scott and features performances by a combination of Civic regulars and fresh new faces including Chris Meier, Stevie Hahn, Emma Smith, Catie Noller, Amanda Reyome, Cody Ricks, Rachel Rapkin, Brian Wagner, Nick Blevins, Justin Cochran and Cathy Nix. Music is provided by a live band led by Music Director Amy Kouyeas and choreogrophy is by Julie Barber.
