Mary Anne Barothy Book Signing at Danner's

On Saturday, November 3rd, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., author Mary
Anne Barothy will meet the public and sign copies of her new book, Day
at a Time: An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris Day's
Hollywood and Beyond. No reservations are needed to attend and there
is no charge for this event. Please join us!

In 1968 Mary Anne Barothy left her society reporter's job on The
Indianapolis News to fulfill a movie fan's dream: she went to
Hollywood to see, and work near, her film idol Doris Day. Barothy and
the star developed a friendship which led to Doris Day's hiring of
Mary Anne Barothy as her personal secretary, a position she held for
four years. A considerable amount of that time was spent in Doris'
home, where she lived for two years. Mary Anne Barothy has told in
detail the story of her years as part of the Day entourage in her new
book Day at a Time: An Indiana Girl's Sentimental Journey to Doris
Day's Hollywood and Beyond (Hawthorne Publishing, Carmel, Indiana $25
hardcover, (ISBN:978-0-9787167-3-8) and $18 soft bound
(ISBN:978-0-9787167-4-5) scheduled for October release.

There was plenty of action during these years when Day was fighting to
regain her fortune, starring in a TV series, and beginning her career
as an animal rights' advocate. 'We never knew what would come up in
any given day,' Mary Anne says 'and my job was to do it all, whether
it was helping her with her lines for a dog food commercial, walking
the 11 dogs who sometimes fought each other, fixing her favorite
breakfast of eggs over lightly and crisp bacon, driving a truck, or
aiding on 'The Doris Day Show,' a 70s TV offering. Day emerges from
the telling of this story as the same decent, fun-loving 'girl next
door' she played in the movies but there are many dramatic moments in
the star's life during the 70s which Mary Anne helped Doris live.

Celebrities wander through the book: Doris' son Terry, who was an
innocent witness at the Manson trial and suffered an awful motorcycle
accident, Billy De Wolfe, James Cagney, June Allyson, Dr. Robert
Schuller, Warren Beatty, and author Jackie Susann, to name only a few
of the scores of well known people in the book.

Mary Ann Barothy taped recorded Miss Day over the period of time she was employed by Miss Day, without Miss Day's knowledge or permission. This was an illegal act, AS WELL as, despicable act done and excuted by Miss Mary Ann Barothy. This serious information came to light on two Doris Day Fan forums by Karen Severino, who lived for a period of time with Miss Barothy. Karen was given these tapes to hear by Miss Barothy. Miss Barothy taped Miss Day in her own home, when Miss Barothy lived there for a period of time. It has also been reported that Miss Barothy taped Miss Day in Miss Day's T.V dressing room! Mr Bryan James who is webmaster of one of the Doris Day websites was so upset about this information that he sent back the book that Miss Barothy had sent him, unopened, and has refused to read it! Miss Barothy is NO fan of Miss Day...she was fired by Miss Day, and has carried a resentment for Miss Day for over 30 years! You can E-mail Ms Karen Severino for verification of the above information at: KARENSEV@AOL.COM

This is a typical post from the jealous so-called fans of Miss Day who assume they know about Miss Barothy's interactions with the star. Indeed, Karen Severino was involved in the book and now tries to deny it. Miss Barothy's book is a tribute to Miss Day as a human being, showing her in her everyday life, and not the squeaky-clean idol that her "viper squad" make her out to be. They want to think she is perfect, instead of HUMAN. Read the book before making judgments and don't listen to these envious "fans" who think they know more than they do.

And the previous comment was from LB who pretended she was Ms. Barothy's friend and co-hort while she was jumping the fence to help the fans who hated the book. Too bad Ms. LB got burnt in the middle.
Next time, perhaps she will not help write a book from someone who betrays her employer....and then, pretend she was not involved. Seems to me she has no clue where she stands or sits...poor little LB.
