DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Thank you to everyone who braved to cold to come out for last night's Holiday Lights celebration downtown. Special thanks to all the volunteers who gave their time and energy to help make the event successful.

DECEMBER EVENTS :

8th - Muncie Young Professionals Group holiday party, 7:30-9:30pm at The Lofts 301 S. Walnut. Appetizers and cash bar provided by Vera Mae's; dress in cocktail, dressy casual or festive attire. RSVP to Traci Lutton at tlutton@muncie.com.

8th-9th - MAIN STREET STUDIO THEATRE 8:00pm will present DEATH AND THE MAIDEN by Ariel Dorfman. The performances will be on the stage at Main Street Studio Theatre, 222 East Main Street

9th - John Carlson, Local author and columnist for The Star Press will be at Danner's on Saturday, December 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to sign copies of his latest book, Nice Try. Annetta Moore Nelson, the award-winning artist and illustrator of the book, will also be here!

9th - Minnetrista features: Winter Markets 9 a.m. - noon at the Orchard Shop Courtyard, market will include meat, eggs, honey, cheese and baked goods. This will take place rain or shine.Call (765) 213-3549 for details.

9th MUNCIE CIVIC THEATRE will hold open auditions at 1:00pm. Directors will be seeking actors for HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH (seeking 1 man for lead role - must be strong rock & roll singer, and 1 piano player in hard rock/punk rock style); also for OLEANNA (seeking one man 30's-40's and one woman, early 20's); and AN THEN THEY CAME FOR ME: REMEMBERING THE WORLD OF ANNE FRANK (seeking 20 children ages 7 - 17 as well as 2 men and 2 women 30's-40's) . Auditioners are asked to prepare a memorized one-minute monologue or speech of their choosing. Those auditioning for HEDWIG should also be prepared to sing a song of their choosing. An accompanist will be provided.

9th-10th - Muncie Children's Museum - Santa visits for the last time before Christmas. Saturday, 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or on Sunday, between 2 p.m. & 4 p.m.

12th Minnetrista presents: World of Stories for 4-5 year olds from 4pm-5pm. Call (765) 213-3549 for details.

14th Minnetrista presents: Great Games for 6-7 year olds from 4pm-5pm

16th - Author Reid Duffy will be at Danner's Books-Gifts-Yarn on Saturday, December 16th, from 11:00a.m. to 1:00p.m., to sign copies of his newly revised book, Reid Duffy's Guide to Indiana's Favorite Restaurants: With a Recipe Sampler. Reid Duffey is a noted TV personality and columnist.

16th - Muncie Ballet presents The Children's Nutcracker at 7pm in the Edmund Burke Ball Auditorium at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 520 E Main Street,Call 289-9687 or visit MuncieBallet.org

30th - Muncie Children's Museum - DeFur Voran Free Family Saturday. Enjoy the Museum for free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

DECEMBER ONGOING :

Through December - Mitchell Place Gallery will showcase Bill Inman during the 'First Thursday,' exhibiting his landscape oil paintings at MPG Thursday, December 7, 5-8pm... Mitchell Place Gallery is the longest running fine art gallery in downtown Muncie... now located at 308 E. Main Street (next to Jack's).

Through Dec. 31 - The Glitterati Salon in Rose Court, 125 E. Charles, will feature local artist Rod Overla through the holidays; his "I believe Series" Christmas Santas" may be ordered or purchased.

Through Dec. 31 - Artist Within will feature recent paintings by Lindsay Walker in a one man show entitled "One Way Signs". An artist reception is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, from 5-8 pm. Handmade gifts from Beyond I Can will be on display and for sale during the First Thursday Holiday Lights festivities.

Dec. 7 through Jan. 29 - Gordy Fine Art & Framing features Pressed for Prints: Traditional & Giclee Holiday Exhibit, featuring 14 area artists. A First Thursday artists' reception will be held from 5 to 8 PM on December 7, 2006 at the downtown frame shop/gallery. Additionally, Brian and Genny Gordy will give a talk at 5:30 PM, Printmaking Methods & How to Start a Print Collection. At 6 PM, Greg Harty will give a talk on Giclee Printing at Jack's Camera Shop. Back at Gordy's, Ben Gordy will demonstrate the art of water gilding beginning at 6:30 PM. The public is invited to each presentation and to the artists' reception. Light refreshments will be served.
