DOWNTOWN ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Join everybody Downtown this First Thursday, December 7th, for the Holiday Lights celebration! Opening Ceremonies, street decoration and luminaria lighting will kick off the evening at 5:00pm on the courthouse square. Lots of events and activities are planned for the entire family. Also taking place downtown that evening will be the Muncie Symphony League Chili Cook Off, and the Midwest Writer Book Sale. DECEMBER EVENTS :
1st - Muncie Children's Museum - Friends & Family Fun Night - Children and adults will take a tour of Winter Celebrations around the World. Crafts, activities and more await visitors at this Free Admission Event from 3 pm to 7 pm.
1st - 2nd - Minnetrista features: Enchanted Luminaria Walk 6-9 p.m. Enjoy a carriage ride or winter stroll through Minnetrista's gardens and grounds. Free Admission.
1st-2nd - Muncie Civic Theater presents: Over the River & Through the Woods at 7:30pm Reservations and ticket sales are available by calling 765-288-PLAY or at www.munciecivic.org.
2nd - 11am-1pm, Danner's Books-Gifts-Yarn presents a book signing by Author and former Muncie resident, Jane Davis Van Ryan. She will sign copies of her book, The Seduction of Miss Evelyn Hazen. Van Ryan is the sister of Judy Davis Benken (Normandy Florists) and the daughter of Paul Davis (Paul Davis Flowers).
2nd - Minnetrista presents: Holiday Wreaths the Natural Way 2-4 p.m. -Create your own unique holiday masterpiece utilizing items found in nature. Call (765) 213-3549 for details.
3rd - Cornerstone Center for the Arts presents: Rag Quilting 2:00-3:30pm and Holiday card making 3:30-5:00pm
6th - Muncie Children's Museum -weekly after school workshop features Hand Made Gifts. The workshop is every Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m

9th - Local author and columnist for The Star Press, John Carlson will be at Danner's on Saturday, December 9th from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to sign copies of his latest book, Nice Try. Annetta Moore Nelson, the award-winning artist and illustrator of the book, will also be here!
9th - Minnetrista features: Winter Markets 9 a.m. - noon at the Orchard Shop Courtyard, market will include meat, eggs, honey, cheese and baked goods. This will take place rain or shine.Call (765) 213-3549 for details.
9th MUNCIE CIVIC THEATRE will hold open auditions at 1:00pm. Directors will be seeking actors for HEDWIG & THE ANGRY INCH (seeking 1 man for lead role - must be strong rock & roll singer, and 1 piano player in hard rock/punk rock style); also for OLEANNA (seeking one man 30's-40's and one woman, early 20's); and AN THEN THEY CAME FOR ME: REMEMBERING THE WORLD OF ANNE FRANK (seeking 20 children ages 7 - 17 as well as 2 men and 2 women 30's-40's) . Auditioners are asked to prepare a memorized one-minute monologue or speech of their choosing. Those auditioning for HEDWIG should also be prepared to sing a song of their choosing. An accompanist will be provided.
9th-10th - Muncie Children's Museum - Santa visits for the last time before Christmas. Saturday, 9 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., or on Sunday, between 2 p.m. & 4 p.m.

Through Dec. 31 - The Glitterati Salon in Rose Court, 125 E. Charles, will feature local artist Rod Overla through the holidays; his "I believe Series" Christmas Santas" may be ordered or purchased.
Through Dec. 31 - Artist Within will feature recent paintings by Lindsay Walker in a one man show entitled "One Way Signs". An artist reception is scheduled for Thursday, December 7, from 5-8 pm. Handmade gifts from Beyond I Can will be on display and for sale during the First Thursday Holiday Lights festivities.
Dec. 7 through Jan. 29 - Gordy Fine Art & Framing features Pressed for Prints: Traditional & Giclee Holiday Exhibit, featuring 14 area artists. A First Thursday artists' reception will be held from 5 to 8 PM on December 7, 2006 at the downtown frame shop/gallery. Additionally, Brian and Genny Gordy will give a talk at 5:30 PM, Printmaking Methods & How to Start a Print Collection. At 6 PM, Greg Harty will give a talk on Giclee Printing at Jack's Camera Shop. Back at Gordy's, Ben Gordy will demonstrate the art of water gilding beginning at 6:30 PM. The public is invited to each presentation and to the artists' reception. Light refreshments will be served.
