Celebrate the Arts at First Thursdays Downtown

Meet the Artists at First Thursdays in Downtown Muncie

Downtown Muncie, Indiana celebrates the arts on the first Thursday evenings of every month from 5 to 8 pm. Our many art galleries spotlight their exhibit openings for the month and host meet-the-artist receptions; and our specialty shops are open late on this evening for a free, family fun event. Visit www.munciedowntown.com for details.

Some of the gallery events at the next First Thursday, June 7, from 5 to 8pm:

~ The Artist Within, 313 S Walnut Street - 765-289-7895 ~

June at the Artist Within will feature local artist and Ball State graduate Andrew Chambers.

Mr. Chambers received BFA in 2001 with a major in figure drawing under the guidance of John P. Gee. He has exhibited throughout Indiana and was included in a show in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil.

Andrew states, "My art represents a constant experimentation of seemingly conflicting media with the nude figure, interpretation of symbols, and re-contextualized popular and familiar imagery as my main themes."

This exhibit will showcase his digital work, but will have a few pieces created in traditional media. He feels that artists Umberto Boccioni, Henry Moore, and Peter Saul have had the most influence on him; however, his 2004 reading of "Modern Art and the Death of a Culture" by H. R. Rookmaaker has had a profound impact on how he views art.

Andy lives in Muncie with his wife, Lisa.
