News from Downtown Business Council
Downtown friends: It is time to begin plans for the holiday season! If you are interested in serving on the Downtown Holiday Committee, please plan to attend the initial meeting on Wednesday, November 1st at 10:00 AM at The Artist Within. We would like to coordinate efforts among the merchants and Downtown Development to ensure that our downtown looks lovely and festive for the Holiday season.

OCTOBER EVENTS :

27th - Witches Ball, Center Stage - A night of reveling with the spirits and partying with the dead, and the living (of course), featuring live music from some of Indiana's finest bands and "The Devils Rejex" America's #1 Rob Zombie Tribute Band!! An all-ages event, but not appropriate for young children. Costume contest, admission charged. Visit www.witchesball.net for info.

27-28th - Minnestrista Creatures of the Night Campfire 6-8pm. Registration fee charged, Deadline October 20. Call (765) 213-3549 for details.

27th - 28th @ 7:30pm - Muncie Civic Theatre will present a special Halloween show of CATS by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Reservations and ticket sales are available by calling 765-288-PLAY or at www.munciecivic.org.

27 - 29th - Magna Cum Murder, at the Historic Roberts Hotel and Horizon Convention Center. Featuring guest authors M.C. Beaton, Christina Jennings, and Kurt Muse.Registration is required by October 13. Visit www.magnacummurder.com for details.

28th - Minnestrista: Pumpkin Carving Workshop 6-8pm. Registration fee charged, deadline October 18. Call (765) 213-3549 for details.

28th - Muncie Children's Museum DeFur Voran Free Family Saturday - Free admission from 10 am to 5 pm. The Museum kicks off its Music on the Move programming with the Muncie Symphony Orchestra from 11 am until Noon.

28th - Masquerade Madness - 7pm to 1am in the streets of downtown Muncie. Call Downtown Development for details at 282-7897.

28th - Jazz Night at Vera Mae's, 6:30-10pm featuring vocalist Mary Ann Moss with Frank Smith, string bass, and Frank Puzzullo, pianist. Reservations suggested. Call 765-747-4941.

OCTOBER ONGOING :

Through October 31st - Muncie Children's Museum - The Basement haunted house is open for its 10th season. For dates, times and admission information, call the Museum at 286-1660 or visit our website at www.munciechildrensmuseum.com.

Through October - Gordy Fine Art & Framing will feature Charlene George and Carol Strock-Wasson.

Trough October - MPG Fine Arts features various media from BSU faculty.

Through October - The Artist Within will feature oil paintings by Indiana artist Abbie Parmele. The upstairs gallery will exhibit encaustic paintings by Marilyn Derwenskus' BSU Advanced Painting class. Opening reception Thursday Oct. 5th/5-9. Live demonstratons.

Through October - The Blue Bottle will exhibit photogaphs by Earl L. Conn, local writer, photographer, and speaker. His weekly column, "Traveling Indiana," which appears in five Indiana newspapers, is based on his visits to historic and interesting places around the Hoosier state.

Through October - ArtWorks presents: Award winning Artist Katherine Meade. The show will open on ArtsWalk October 5, with the artist in attendance from 5 to 8 pm. The public is invited to attend and partake of light refreshments.

Opens Sept. 23rd - Exhibits Surf the Wind ongoing exhibit at Minnetrista. Hours: Mon.-Sat., 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. and Sun., 11 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Take off on an interactive journey into the world of 21st century kites! Admission charged.

NOVEMBER EVENTS :

2nd - Minnetrista presents "Super Sounds", 10-10:30 a.m. Program includes a visit to the exhibit "Children Just Like Me." Registration deadline is October 27. Call (765) 213-3549 for details.

2nd - Open House - The Lofts @ Mitchell Place. 301 South Walnut Street. Tour the remaining unsold units and see what everyone is talking about. 5:30PM-7:00PM. Call 765.730.1862 or at www.theloftsatmitchellplace.com for more information.

3rd - MPG and Vera Mae's invite you to the4th Annual Fine Wine Dinner & Art Auction at 7 pm. Auction proceeds to benefit A.R.F. Reservations are required, and seating is limited. Call 765-747-4941

17th - A Taste of Danner's, from 5 to 8pm. The Book Clubs and Knitting Groups of Danner's invite the public to a special event held to benefit the bookstore, A Taste of Danner's! will feature a smorgasbord of multi-ethnic food and drinks, including wine, cheese, appetizers, entrees, desserts, and more! 24-26 & 30th, Dec. 1 & 2nd - Muncie Civic Theater presents: Over the River & Through the Woods at 7:30pm on the 24th & 25th; 2:00 pm on the 26th; and 7:30 pm on the 30th, Dec. 1st & 2nd.

NOVEMBER ONGOING :

Through November - The Artist Within will feature the artwork of Thomas L. Farris throughout the month of November. His one man show, "IDEA DRIVEN...MEDIA EXPLORATION", runs November 1-25, 2006 with an artist opening reception Thursday, November 2 from 5-8 pm. The upper level gallery will feature the work of two Ball State University seniors. Painting majors Jessica Green and Duncan Ford will exhibit recent works. Jessica will showcase painting done while on her trip to France last summer; Duncan will feature his figure studies. They will also have an artists reception from 5-8 pm on Thursday November 2nd.

UPCOMING IN DECEMBER:

Dec. 15-17th - Muncie Ballet presents The Children's Nutcracker, attended by over 1600 community children annually. Now in it's 6th year, families have made a tradition of attending this children's holiday classic. Details at MuncieBallet.org
