Muncie Civic Theatre announces the Fall 2006 Line Up of
FREE SATURDAY MOVIES at CIVIC:
Three Full-Day Festivals plus Cult Films at Midnight
MUNCIE CIVIC THEATRE, Delaware County's historic 75-year old arts leader, is announcing the return of FREE SATURDAY MOVIES AT CIVIC, a new series of film presentations. Through a partnership with Downtown Development and Muncie Public Library, Muncie Civic will be presenting classic movies in four themed festivals during the fall.
The series dates are:
BUSTER KEATON FESTIVAL - October 21;
CLASSIC HORROR FESTIVAL - October 28;
JOHN WAYNE FESTIVAL - November 11;
ALFRED HITCHCOCK FESTIVAL - November 18.
Movies will begin at 1:00pm (except Nov. 11 which begins at 3:00pm) and will continue with a new film every two hours until 2am with short subjects and cartoons shown between features (except October 28 which breaks from 5:00-11:00 for a stage production of CATS).
Admission is free. Popcorn, soda and candy will be available for purchase in the lobby. Specific playing times for titles in each series will be available the week preceding each festival on fliers available at the theatre and at Muncie Public Library branches.
THE BUSTER KEATON FESTIVAL on October 21 will include "The General," "Steamboat Bill, Jr.," "College," "Our Hospitality," and "Sherlock Jr." The Midnight Movie will be "Todd Browning's Freaks."
THE CLASSIC HORROR FESTIVAL on October 28 will include "F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu," and "The Mummy." The Midnight Movie will be "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."
THE JOHN WAYNE FESTIVAL on November 11, Veterans Day, will include "The Searchers," "Donovan's Reef," "The Quiet Man," and "True Grit." The Midnight Movie will be "Midnight Cowboy."
THE ALFRED HITCHCOCK FESTIVAL on November 18 will include "The Man Who Knew Too Much," "North By Northwest," "Spellbound," "Rope," and "Strangers On A Train." The Midnight Movie will be "Psycho."
The Cinema Classics series offers a traditional movie-going experience in an historical setting. From 1933 until 1953, Muncie Civic Theatre was the Hoosier Movie Theatre and is the last of more than two dozen architecturally historical movie palaces still standing in Downtown Muncie.
With assistance from Jack's Camera Shop, Muncie Civic has obtained a brand new fifteen-by-twenty-foot movie screen and through a partnership with Downtown Development is utilizing a state-of-the-art digital projector used in the summer to show outdoor movies on Walnut Street. Combined with the professional sound system already in place for plays and musicals and the historic setting of the auditorium, Muncie Civic hopes to provide a nostalgic experience coupled with technical cinematic excellence.
The movie series, which began in March, 2005, will continue with Winter and Spring Series' in 2007 including tributes to Billy Wilder, Federico Fellini, Art Films, Animated Films, Woody Allen, Humphrey Bogart and Marlon Brando.
