Cornerstone Center for the Arts: Summer Arts Programming
This summer Cornerstone is offering arts programming for the entire family. Most camps run for one week during June or July. A sampling of classes include: The Write Attitude w/ Joyce Jamerson (for youth grades 2-6 and 7-8), Hip Hop Aerobics w/ Sally Leist (for Adults), Beginning Ballet w/ Marge Hobley (for Parents & Adults), To Shin Do w/Peter Ellery (for children and adults), Drawing and Painting w/ Bob Grice (for Adults), Clay w/ Shonet Lambert-Martin (for children & adults), KidArt with various teachers (for 7mos-5 years w/ caregivers) and Group Guitar w/ Whitney Stump (for high school & adults).

LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL FIRM CHANGES NAME AND NEW LOCATION
MUNCIE, INDIANA - Gooden and Ellis Architects, LLP 111 West Adams Street has changed its name to GEA Architects, LLP and is now located at 108 East Jackson Street. It was previously located in First Merchants Bank for 25 years and Mitchell Place for the last 8 years.
GEA Architects, LLP has been a Muncie based architectural firm for 33 years established by James H. Gooden. Gooden continues as a consultant and architect with the firm. The firm is a partnership with architect Michael W. Ellis and architect Joseph L. Dowdle and five staff.
After several months of work, this 1890 building was renovated by Ellis and Dowdle into modern offices. The exterior was restored to historic standards with the assistance of the downtown facade program by S.A. Boyce Corporation of Muncie.

4th - 31st Mitchell Place Gallery, 301 S. Walnut, presents three concurrent exhibits in May. Two exhibits "Experimentations in Painting and Metal" is the combined work of five Ball State seniors as they explore and develop individual styles and themes. The painters are Kyle Harrington, Elizabeth Berlin and John Muyl le and the Metal artists are Stacey Weber and Andrea Miller. The third exhibit is an exhibit of fashion design that features the work of Ball State students as well. It is coordinated by Valerie Birk, their mentor and instructor.

5th - 31st David Dale Designs Fine Art Gallery will host an exhibit of works on canvas and paper by Indiana artists David Dale, Muncie, Mary Ann Davis, Indianapolis, and Carol Strock Wasson, Union City
28th Minnestrista: Join us each Saturday from 7-11 a.m. for a special May Market at Minnetrista! Get a jump on your garden and select from a great variety of bedding plants, shrubs, trees, hanging baskets, and planters. Early-season produce and baked goods will also be available.
28th Minnetrista: 9 a.m. - 12 p.m. Garden Planting Workshop
Learn about the basics of planting a garden including plat selection from nurseries/vendors, proper planting techniques and plant care. Participants will receive materials for general garden planting and care and have the opportunity to plant an actual garden at Minnetrista (based on the design created during the Garden Planning Workshop of March 5). Participants will leave with a layout map of the garden they have planted. Price: Members, $2 per person; non-members, $5 per person.
28th Muncie Civic Theater For those who have always wanted to audition for a play but don't know how to start, or for those wishing to brush up on auditioning skills by working with professional actors and directors, Muncie Civic Theatre will be holding an Audition Workshop on May 28 2:00pm. There is no charge and the workshop is open to the public. Topics covered will include: choosing good material, making a good first impression, calming your nerves, the basics of a good resume, the importance of a good headshot, coping with rejection and how to choose which auditions are right for you.

JUNE

1-30th Mitchell Place Gallery: Melody Carr, DUAL VISION A TACTILE EXHIBITION Opening Reception, June 2, 5-8pm. Melodie Carr is a local book artist and dance teacher. She teaches Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, and Music at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts and for Very Special Arts of Indiana (VSAI). Melodie is drawn to book arts and dance because of their physically interactive natures. Through her art and teaching, she hopes to broaden people's horizons (and bring on a few smiles) with interactive projects and classes.

2nd - 30th Gordy's Fine Art and Framing Over twenty adult students of watercolor artist Brian Gordy will exhibit their work at Gordy's during the month of June. The public is invited to a reception for the artists during the monthly First Thursday event on June 2nd, from 5 to 8 pm at the gallery/shop.
Artists included in the show are Cindy Ammerman, Nancy Cook, Juli Eflin, Peggy Garrett, Martha Gilliom, Mary Kay Holladay, Barbara Houck, Nicola Johnson, Carolyn Kapinus, Jack May, Robert Morse, Renee O'Rourke, Lauren Shaffer, Nadine Tringali, Lorri Tucker, Cindy Turner, Angele Walker, and Yvonne Williams.

2nd-30th Blue Bottle: "Peanut Butter & Honey" by Kyle Meyerdirks Emerging Young Artist to Exhibit at the Blue Bottle
Kyle Meyerdirks will hold his first public exhibition during the month of June at the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop in downtown Muncie. A dozen paintings will be shown and offered for sale. If art is a reflection of its time, then Meyerdirk's time is definitely pop culture. His contemporary paintings are a reflection of his interests, with influences from hip Japanese animation. Flat colors in a limited palette depict a beloved dachshund, a humanesque octopus, or robots, both hard-edged and soft-shelled varieties. Backgrounds are empty buildings, shadows, or non-existent, with moodiness on top.

2nd - 30th the Artist Within: Exploration in color", Britt Husman, the featured artist, is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of
Indiana Wesleyan University. He is currently the Art Department Chair at Muncie Southside High School; will feature several large oil paintings that have been developed over the last three years. An opening reception will be held June 2nd from 5-8 pm. Also: Local artist Heidi Hale will be offering bead workshops and potter, Toren Scott is scheduling throwing lessons.

2nd-30th Artworks Gallery featuring Altered Art. Our artist have been busy finding things that are not art and turning them into a wonderful art piece. Example: wires, twist ties, pop tops etc., weaving into an amazing quilt.

2nd Blue Bottle: from 5 to 8 pm. Singer Joan Hamilton will perform, described as a "James Taylor-like guitarist." For more information call 284-3630.

4th -5th Minnetrista 2005 Garden Fair Saturday, June 4, 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, June 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Free parking and admission. Also, children's activities and garden lectures.

5th-7th Muncie Civic Theater Auditions for the 2005-2006 Mainstage Season as well as for the Studio Theatre Cabaret and Alternative Programming Series. Auditions for the 14-show series, "The 75th Diamond Anniversary Season", are open to all ages and levels of experience. Auditions will be at 6:30pm on the main stage at Muncie Civic Theatre, 216 East Main Street, Muncie, Indiana.

5th Cortex Hair Center, 112 W. Jackson St. the salon is featuring recent works by artist, Ryan Ramsey. Meet the artist and check out his
paintings at a reception from 5-8 pm Thurs.

7th -28th Cornerstone Center for the Arts KidArt Summer Camp 10-11:30am or 6-7pm; ages 7 months-5 years, cost $20.

11th Indiana Public Radio and Old National invite you to "An Afternoon in the Vineyards," a wine-tasting party and silent auction, June 11, 3-6 p.m. at Muncie Airport. Co-hosted by Vince's Restaurant. Proceeds benefit Indiana Public Radio. Reservations are required at 800-646-1812 by June 3. $10 for IPR members; $15 for non-members. Muncie Children's Museum Summer Passes Now Available
Spend the whole summer at the Muncie Children's Museum when you purchase a summer pass. Summer passes are $40.00 and are valid June through August. Sensational summer activities begin June 1: Don't miss Tasty Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Think Fast Thursday or Fun Time Friday. This summer will also be full of exciting weekend activities and new exhibit openings. Summer passes apply to Museum admission only; no other membership benefits apply.

Artcamp 2005 will be offered at two locations this summer in downtown Muncie. Gordy Fine Art & Framing, 224 E. Main St., will be the site for Preschool Camp, June 13 - 17, and Cultures Camp, June 20-24. The Artist Within, at 313 S. Walnut, will offer Clay Camp July 27-July 1.

Muncie Children's Museum New Exhibit to Make a Splash in June
A new exhibit will be making a splash at the Muncie Children's Museum. The grand opening of the new Water Works exhibit will be Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. The 12-foot exhibit encourages visitors to splash into a whole new world of water exploration.
- Aim squirt guns at spinning targets
- Play at the "build a pipe" activity
- Check out the dump bucket water tower
For the opening, the Museum will offer half off admission to all visitors both days along with special programs and activities. For the first 50 children who visit each day, a special promotional gift will be given so come early and enjoy the totally new Water Works exhibit.

JULY

4th Minnetrista Patriotic with America's Hometown Band 7:30 p.m. Grab your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and join us for free summer family fun and live musical entertainment!
