Call for Arts

Muncie is a city of the arts, and audition season is upon us. Classes, too!

The White River Youth Choir is for singers ages 8 to 18. A registration and information meeting is August 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Arts and Building Foundation, 520 E. Main Street.
Rehearsals will begin Monday, Sept. 13. For more information, call 765-282-8476.

Muncie Ballet Studio begins a new dance season with an open house Sept. 7 from 4:30-7:30 p.m. at 520 E. Main Street.
Visitors can review or register for classes, meet teachers, and view demonstrations. Volunteers can also sign up to help with the annual holiday performance of The Children's Nutcracker in December.
Auditions for upper-level classes will be Thursday, September 9.

Muncie Civic Theatre will have general auditions on Thursday, Sept. 2 at 6:30 p.m. on the main stage, 216 E. Main Street in Downtown Muncie.
Auditions are for the 2004-2005 season as well as for the Studio Theatre Cabaret and Alternative Programming series. Auditioners will be asked to prepare a monologue and a song (if auditioning for musicals). An accompanist will be provided for singers.
Roles are open for the following productions: A Christmas Carol, Sherlock Holmes, Fools, Honk!, Into the Woods, Hoagy Carmichael & Cole Porter Cabaret, Jerome Kern and Harold Arlen Cabaret, My Three Angels, The Rocky Horror Show and Equus.

Artists are sought for the fourth annual "Open Space: Art About the Land," an art competition and exhibition. "Open Space," organized by Brian Gordy and co-sponsored by Minnetrista, seeks to recognize and encourage artists in Indiana who derive creative inspiration from the land (nature) or whose work celebrates the nature of open space as it relates to land.
Deadline for actual work is Sept. 3 and 4. The event will open at Minnetrista with a reception Sept. 17 from 5:30-7:30 pm.
The exhibition will run through October 17 at Minnetrista, from Nov. 7-30 at the Art Association of Henry County, and from Dec. 7 to Jan. 7 at the Anderson Fine Arts Center.
The competition has been a fund-raise for Red-tail Conservancy for the past three years. Any artist who submits work and pays the entry fee is automatically a member of Red-tail Conservancy for a year.

The Community Arts & Building Foundation Inc. (formerly Muncie Center for the Arts and Community Civic Center) begins its fall session of arts classes September 11 - November 21. Arts classes for all ages include The Strings Institute, Private & Group Piano, Private & Group Flute, many levels of Dance Theatre and Visual Arts, and American Sign Language.

Local artist Karen Fisher will offer an oil painting class on Tuedays beginning in September at Mitchell Place Gallery, 301 S. Walnut Street in Downtown Muncie.
The class will help the artist "satisfy your desire to create and acquire the skills to help you fulfill that desire." The class will meet for 10 weeks from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays beginning September 14. The fee is $125 plus supplies.

Gordy's Fine Art & Framing, 224 E. Main Street in Downtown Muncie, will host a 10-week series of arts & crafts classes from September 13 to November 18.
Mother & Child Art Studio will be taught by Ginny Gordy, Intermediate/Advanced Watercolor will be taught by store owner Brian Gordy, and Knitting (European or Continental Style) will be taught by Lina Gordy.

All About Artists Month at MCM
