News from Genny Gordy, Downtown Business Council:
1) I have a card for Emmett Smelser, for his retirement. Please drop by and sign it, or send me a message to cut out & include in the envelope from DBC. He has been an amazing supporter for downtown development! (Need before Wed. the 22nd, noon)
2) I am so sorry, but the sign-in and committee sheets never made it back home with me from our last meeting. If you signed up for a committee, please email me your interest again! At present time, the Christmas committee is meeting regularly, and an initial Marketing Committee meeting is scheduled for next Monday, the 20th. (If you wish to serve on that, let me know asap.)
3) The Snow Removal committee will meet next Thursday, June 23rd, for coffee at the Blue Bottle. Members please write in to tell me your time preferences!
4) Wow, what a difference the flowers make! Thank you all for your efforts. Isn't it great to keep reading & hearing about how our downtown has completely turned around, and is something to be proud of now, and bring guests to visit? Yeah, everybody!!!!

Cornerstone Center for the Arts: Summer Arts Programming
This summer Cornerstone is offering arts programming for the entire family. Most camps run for one week during June or July.

LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL FIRM CHANGES NAME AND NEW LOCATION
Gooden and Ellis Architects, LLP 111 West Adams Street has changed its name to GEA Architects, LLP and is now located at 108 East Jackson Street. GEA Architects, LLP has been a Muncie based architectural firm for 33 years established by James H. Gooden.

Muncie Children's Museum Friends and Family Fun Nights feature free museum admission, special activities and programming. Friday June 3rd from 4pm to 8pm is the inaugural night. Come and meet Garfield at the museum along with Hope Sixcess Summer Breeze Youth Program Registration Fair. Youth service agencies from across the county will be on site, making summer program sign ups a breeze with one stop enrollment.

JUNE

1-30th Mitchell Place Gallery: Melody Carr, DUAL VISION A TACTILE EXHIBITION Opening Reception, June 2, 5-8pm. Melodie Carr is a local book artist and dance teacher. She teaches Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, and Music at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts and for Very Special Arts of Indiana (VSAI). Melodie is drawn to book arts and dance because of their physically interactive natures. Through her art and teaching, she hopes to broaden people's horizons (and bring on a few smiles) with interactive projects and classes.

2nd - 30th Gordy's Fine Art and Framing Over twenty adult students of watercolor artist Brian Gordy will exhibit their work at Gordy's during the month of June. The public is invited to a reception for the artists during the monthly First Thursday event on June 2nd, from 5 to 8 pm at the gallery/shop. Artists included in the show are Cindy Ammerman, Nancy Cook, Juli Eflin, Peggy Garrett, Martha Gilliom, Mary Kay Holladay, Barbara Houck, Nicola Johnson, Carolyn Kapinus, Jack May, Robert Morse, Renee O'Rourke, Lauren Shaffer, Nadine Tringali, Lorri Tucker, Cindy Turner, Angele Walker, and Yvonne Williams.

2nd-30th Blue Bottle: "Peanut Butter & Honey" by Kyle Meyerdirks Emerging Young Artist to Exhibit at the Blue Bottle
Kyle Meyerdirks will hold his first public exhibition during the month of June at the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop in downtown Muncie. A dozen paintings will be shown and offered for sale. If art is a reflection of its time, then Meyerdirk's time is definitely pop culture. His contemporary paintings are a reflection of his interests, with influences from hip Japanese animation. Flat colors in a limited palette depict a beloved dachshund, a humanesque octopus, or robots, both hard-edged and soft-shelled varieties. Backgrounds are empty buildings, shadows, or non-existent, with moodiness on top.

2nd - 30th the Artist Within: Exploration in color", Britt Husman, the featured artist, is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of
Indiana Wesleyan University. He is currently the Art Department Chair at Muncie Southside High School; will feature several large oil paintings that have been developed over the last three years. An opening reception will be held June 2nd from 5-8 pm. Also: Local artist Heidi Hale will be offering bead workshops and potter, Toren Scott is scheduling throwing lessons.

2nd-30th Artworks Gallery featuring Altered Art. Our artist have been busy finding things that are not art and turning them into a wonderful art piece. Example: wires, twist ties, pop tops etc., weaving into an amazing quilt.

16th Downtown Farmer's Heritage Organic Market has started up again. Every Thursday at 4:00 at the corner of Walnut and Charles.

Muncie Children's Museum Summer Passes Now Available
Spend the whole summer at the Muncie Children's Museum when you purchase a summer pass. Summer passes are $40.00 and are valid June through August. Sensational summer activities begin June 1: Don't miss Tasty Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Think Fast Thursday or Fun Time Friday. This summer will also be full of exciting weekend activities and new exhibit openings. Summer passes apply to Museum admission only; no other membership benefits apply.

Muncie Children's Museum New Exhibit to Make a Splash in June
A new exhibit will be making a splash at the Muncie Children's Museum. The grand opening of the new Water Works exhibit will be Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. The 12-foot exhibit encourages visitors to splash into a whole new world of water exploration.
- Aim squirt guns at spinning targets
- Play at the "build a pipe" activity
- Check out the dump bucket water tower
For the opening, the Museum will offer half off admission to all visitors both days along with special programs and activities. For the first 50 children who visit each day, a special promotional gift will be given so come early and enjoy the totally new Water Works exhibit.

4th Minnetrista Patriotic with America's Hometown Band 7:30 p.m. Grab your blankets, lawn chairs and picnic baskets and join us for free summer family fun and live musical entertainment! This summer Cornerstone is offering arts programming for the entire family. Most camps run for one week during June or July; details below.

LOCAL ARCHITECTURAL FIRM CHANGES NAME AND NEW LOCATION
Gooden and Ellis Architects, LLP 111 West Adams Street has changed its name to GEA Architects, LLP and is now located at 108 East Jackson Street. GEA Architects, LLP has been a Muncie based architectural firm for 33 years established by James H. Gooden.

Muncie Children's Museum Friends and Family Fun Nights feature free museum admission, special activities and programming. Friday June 3rd from 4pm to 8pm is the inaugural night. Come and meet Garfield at the museum along with Hope Sixcess Summer Breeze Youth Program Registration Fair. Youth service agencies from across the county will be on site, making summer program sign ups a breeze with one stop enrollment.

1-30th Mitchell Place Gallery: Melody Carr, DUAL VISION A TACTILE EXHIBITION Opening Reception, June 2, 5-8pm. Melodie Carr is a local book artist and dance teacher. She teaches Visual Arts, Dance, Theatre, and Music at the Cornerstone Center for the Arts and for Very Special Arts of Indiana (VSAI). Melodie is drawn to book arts and dance because of their physically interactive natures. Through her art and teaching, she hopes to broaden people's horizons (and bring on a few smiles) with interactive projects and classes.

2nd - 30th Gordy's Fine Art and Framing Over twenty adult students of watercolor artist Brian Gordy will exhibit their work at Gordy's during the month of June. The public is invited to a reception for the artists during the monthly First Thursday event on June 2nd, from 5 to 8 pm at the gallery/shop. Artists included in the show are Cindy Ammerman, Nancy Cook, Juli Eflin, Peggy Garrett, Martha Gilliom, Mary Kay Holladay, Barbara Houck, Nicola Johnson, Carolyn Kapinus, Jack May, Robert Morse, Renee O'Rourke, Lauren Shaffer, Nadine Tringali, Lorri Tucker, Cindy Turner, Angele Walker, and Yvonne Williams.

2nd-30th Blue Bottle: "Peanut Butter & Honey" by Kyle Meyerdirks Emerging Young Artist to Exhibit at the Blue Bottle
Kyle Meyerdirks will hold his first public exhibition during the month of June at the Blue Bottle Coffee Shop in downtown Muncie. A dozen paintings will be shown and offered for sale. If art is a reflection of its time, then Meyerdirk's time is definitely pop culture. His contemporary paintings are a reflection of his interests, with influences from hip Japanese animation. Flat colors in a limited palette depict a beloved dachshund, a humanesque octopus, or robots, both hard-edged and soft-shelled varieties. Backgrounds are empty buildings, shadows, or non-existent, with moodiness on top.

2nd - 30th the Artist Within: Exploration in color", Britt Husman, the featured artist, is a native of Dayton, Ohio and a graduate of
Indiana Wesleyan University. He is currently the Art Department Chair at Muncie Southside High School; will feature several large oil paintings that have been developed over the last three years. An opening reception will be held June 2nd from 5-8 pm. Also: Local artist Heidi Hale will be offering bead workshops and potter, Toren Scott is scheduling throwing lessons.

2nd-30th Artworks Gallery featuring Altered Art. Our artist have been busy finding things that are not art and turning them into a wonderful art piece. Example: wires, twist ties, pop tops etc., weaving into an amazing quilt.

3rd Muncie Children's Museum Gymnastics--balance beam tricks: 11am and 3:30pm.

4th Muncie Children's Museum Frisbee--foam Frisbee tag: 11am and 3:30pm

4th -5th Minnetrista 2005 Garden Fair Saturday, June 4: 7 a.m.-5 p.m. and Sunday, June 5, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Free parking and admission, also, many children's activities and garden lectures.

5th-7th Muncie Civic Theater Auditions for the 2005-2006 Mainstage Season as well as for the Studio Theatre Cabaret and Alternative Programming Series. Auditions for the 14-show series, "The 75th Diamond Anniversary Season", are open to all ages and levels of experience. Auditions will be at 6:30pm on the main stage at Muncie Civic Theatre, 216 East Main Street, Muncie, Indiana.
5th-7th Minnestrista A Midsummer Night's Luminaria Fairy Workshops
Session 1: 9-11 a.m.
Session 2: 2-4 p.m.
Fairy Workshops are a three-day series of dance workshops for children who wish to perform as fairies in A Midsummer Night's Luminaria Walk, an annual event presented by Minnetrista and Muncie Ballet Studio. Children ages 6-16 are eligible to participate as fairies and will develop their own fairy personality. Young ladies ages 17 and 18 can participate as fairy helpers. Price: Members, $30 per child; non-members, $ 45 per child; fairy wings (optional), $10 each
5th Cortex Hair Center, 112 W. Jackson St. the salon is featuring recent works by artist, Ryan Ramsey. Meet the artist and check out his
paintings at a reception from 5-8 pm Thurs.

8th Minnestrista A Midsummer Night's Luminaria Fire Sprite Workshops: 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Boys ages 6-16 can become part of the folklore at Oakhurst Gardens. Come creep around the gardens and woods in search of treasures hidden under rocks and toadstools. Boys will learn stories about mischievous and cunning pixies, create a Fire Sprite lantern, and race around the meadown in search of friendly elves hiding along the wood's edge. Fire Sprites are invited to join the fairies in performing in costume during one evening of A Midsummer Night's Luminaria Walk. Price: Members, $15 per child; non-members, $25 per child ....and Fire Sprite Picnic
from 2:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m. Boys ages 3-5 are invited to join the Fire Sprite ranks! Come for a picnic in the meadow. We will search for forest friends under rocks and toadstools and create a Fire Sprite hat to complete our afternoon. Fire Sprites are a welcome addition to Midsummer Night's Luminaria Walk and are invited, but not required, to perform. Price: Members, $10 per child; non-members, $15 per child
9th Minnestrista Preschool Fairy Tea: Session 1: 11 a.m. - 12 p.m. and Session 2: 1-2 p.m.
Little ones love to be fairies too! Join us for a special event planned just for them. The preschool fairy teas are for girls ages 3-5 and must be accompanied by an adult. Young fairies will dance around the garden and have a summer tea in the meadow. Participants are invited, but not required, to perform during A Midsummer Night's Luminaria Walk. 11th Indiana Public Radio and Old National invite you to "An Afternoon in the Vineyards," a wine-tasting party and silent auction, June 11, 3-6 p.m. at Muncie Airport. Muncie Children's Museum Summer Passes Now Available
Spend the whole summer at the Muncie Children's Museum when you purchase a summer pass. Summer passes are $40.00 and are valid June through August. Sensational summer activities begin June 1: Don't miss Tasty Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Think Fast Thursday or Fun Time Friday. Muncie Children's Museum New Exhibit to Make a Splash in June
A new exhibit will be making a splash at the Muncie Children's Museum. The grand opening of the new Water Works exhibit will be Friday, June 24 and Saturday, June 25. The 12-foot exhibit encourages visitors to splash into a whole new world of water exploration.
- Aim squirt guns at spinning targets
- Play at the "build a pipe" activity
- Check out the dump bucket water tower
For the opening, the Museum will offer half off admission to all visitors both days along with special programs and activities. For the first 50 children who visit each day, a special promotional gift will be given so come early and enjoy the totally new Water Works exhibit.
