Student Art Exhibit at Mitchell Place Gallery

Mitchell Place Gallery's Fourth Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit opens February
15 and runs through Feb. 24.
Opening reception is Thursday, Feb. 16, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Awards for grades K-5 are at 6:00, and those for grades 6-12 are at 7:00.
One hundred-seven works were entered for this
show by students from Muncie Community Schools, Delaware Community
Schools, Liberty-Perry Community Schools, Mt. Pleasant Township
Community Schools, as well as St. Lawrence School and Heritage Hall
Christian School.
Sixty-three works were chosen by juror Mary Carter,
Art Education faculty, B.S.U. Lovely art prizes have been donated by
Gordy Fine Art & Framing, The Artist Within, ArtMart, the College of
Architecture & Planning, B.S.U., Cornerstone Center For the Arts, Jack's
Camera, BSU Art professor Marilynn Derwenskus, and Mitchell Place
Gallery.
Costs for the show have been underwritten by a grant from
TrimMaster. MPG heartily thanks everyone for their generous support in
this endeavor!

Cornerstone Center for the Arts Accepting Applications for 401 (k)ids Arts Scholarships

Cornerstone Announces 401 (k)ids Arts Scholarship
Applications Due April 3

Cornerstone Center for the Arts announces the April 3 deadline to submit applications for the 401 (k)ids Arts Scholarship Program. The goal of this program is to provide full or partial scholarships to pay for arts lessons or classes for Delaware County students in 4th through 12th grade who want to pursue dance, music, theatre or visual arts. The scholarships are designed for children who would not otherwise be enrolled in the arts.

Applications will be reviewed by Cornerstone’s scholarship committee who will then interview potential recipients and select the scholarship winners. Deadline for applications is April 3, 2006 with recipients notified by June 1, 2006. The scholarships will be available beginning September 5, 2006 for the 2006-2007 academic year.

Applications will be available at Cornerstone Center for the Arts, 520 E. Main Street in Muncie. Office hours are Monday though Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.

Join us for the largest gated Mardi Gras celebration this side of the Mississippi! 11,000 people attended this gated event in 2005. Downtown restaurants and bars including, Heorot, Center Stage, Stirlings, Docs, The Fickle Peach, and the Mark IV, will all be participating in the festivities. To add to the excitement, we will get a helping hand from many other area bars including the Brass Depot, Pete's Duck Inn, 909 Grille, Red Dog Saloon, Hinees, End Zone, Bygones, Scoobie's and Dill Street! New to Muncie Gras this year is a local stage on the North end of Walnut Street with performances at the top of every hour from some of our favorite local talent, featuring:
"Mud Eye Joe", "Mike Martin and Friends", "Annex", "Updawg", "New Buck Creek Ramblers", and "Stomping Ground". Wheee!

Catch The "Walking Catfish" and the Annex @ Doc's, "Southside Sound" and "Dark House Sweet" at Center Stage, "Joan Hamilton" @ The Heorot, Indy based percussion group will keep the beat in the street, DJ's, drag shows, street performers, private parties and other assorted entertainment will abound. In case you are counting, that is seventeen live performances to catch all in one evening!

Want more excitement than that? See how long you can hold your seat on the "Mechanical Bull" There will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to create their own Mardi Gras experience.

The Downtown Trolley will run from 7:00p.m-3:00a.m from Downtown to the BSU Village and back. Pick it up anywhere on University Ave. between Wheeling and McKinnley every 7 minutes. We encourage responsible fun for everyone!
