News from Downtown Muncie 11/24/2005

AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM DOWNTOWN BUSINESS COUNCIL:

The Executive Committee of the Muncie Downtown Business Council is encouraging downtown businesses to jump into the massive lighting activities by outlining all first and second floor windows of their shops/offices with white lights.

Remember that Dec. 1st at 5 pm kicks off our holiday, with First Thursday at all the galleries to coincide with the lighting display (at 6 pm.)

We also encourage retailers to please extend their Friday night hours until Christmas to 8 pm. If we want to compete for shoppers, we can't invite them down to see the lights on closed shops! Consider advertising that you're extending these hours, and put a sign up on your door or window. Encourage your neighbors to participate, and encourage your friends to shop downtown this season!

Thank you all for each effort; they all add up to a healthy and vital downtown!

holiday cheers,
genny gordy, chair

Late Nite Family Nite at The Artist Within

the Artist Within is featuring "Late Nite Family Nite" Friday Nov. 25 from 9-11 pm. A flat $5 studio fee makes painting gifts for the holiday a bargain. We are also encouraging those coming to support the Ball State Dietetic Association's "Poverty Christmas Aid" program. Bring a new toy and we'll waive your studio fee! BSU students are going on a mission trip to Carreta, West Virginia...one our countries poorest communities. They are also accepting
"gently used" clothes that can be dropped off at our studio. The group will help with home repairs and provide Christmas toys for the children. The Dietetics Association has already painted and sold over 200 coffee mugs for this project!
A complete calendar for November at the Artist Within is posted on our website:theartistwithininc.com

2. Our holiday event this year will take place on First Thursday, Dec. 1st. Please start collecting white lights for all of your windows, be prepared to purchase a wreath ($15) from Kiwanis (see Tom Steiner) for a unifying element to our downtown district, and consider filling your business with poinsettas from the Little Red Door. $15 each, purchased separately, $12 if we buy in groups of 25 or more. Call 284-9063.

3. Returning: last year's successful Holiday Gift Giveaway program. Be thinking about your business' giveaway item. Email to aallen@muncie.gannett.com (Andrea Allen) with "Holiday Giveaway" in the subject line by Nov 10th.

4. Are you ready for sidewalk snow removal? The city ordinance says all sidewalks must be cleared by 10 AM - each morning, folks! Please make arrangements before winter hits - there could be tickets in our forecast, as well as snow! We don't want to discourage shoppers with ice & slush.

5. If you are interested in a leadership position for Downtown Business Council for the coming year, please let Genny Gordy know, so your name can be added to the ballot. gengor@aol.com Help direct our efforts! Your leadership skills are needed! It's also fun!
