Gallery 308 announces that a lecture and workshop on watermedia will be given by local artist, Marilynn Derwenskus, April 13 and 14, at the Gallery. The Friday April 13 lecture is free and starts at 7 p.m. The following day, Derwenskus will give a workshop from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Both events will be conducted in the classroom of Gallery 308, located at 308 East Main, Muncie.
Workshop participants are invited to bring a "brown bag" lunch to the Gallery on Saturday. The Saturday workshop fee is $20, payable to Gallery 308. Friday evening's lecture is free.
Space for the workshop is limited to 18 participants. For more information or to register, contact Karen Fisher at Art Mart (765)284-2919 or e-mail artmartyr3@aol.com. Upon registration, workshop participants will receive a list of art supplies to bring. The deadline for workshop registration is April 6.
Art Mart, located near the BSU campus at 1710 W. University Ave., will offer artists' discounts on items purchased for the workshop.
The April 13 slide lecture will demonstrate new dimensions of Derwenskus's current work that will be on exhibit at Gallery 308 from April 4-28. Saturday's workshop, for all levels of artists, will explore experimental expressions of watermedia.
Marilynn Derwenskus is a widely exhibited, award winning artist. She holds a MFA degree from University of Chicago and currently is a painting professor at Ball State University. Prior to her BSU appointment, she taught at various other institutions including Wayne State University, Macomb Community College, and Henry Ford Community College. She has been the recipient of several study grants that have allowed her to travel throughout the US and abroad to pursue her research and experimentation. This has included work with egg tempera and encaustics. Her passion is teaching and she instills in her students a high degree of enthusiasm and confidence.
